What if the engine is on accidentally all night long (even days if you're away on vacation) inside of closed garage? It can potentially fill your entire house with CO2 or even burn it down! As an engineer, I know that no technology is perfect and it can malfunction, and this remote start thing can kill someone. Is the benefit surpasses the risk? I don't think so. This is a perfect example of Why-Tech instead of being a really useful Hi-Tech.

Spoken like a true moderate climate resident!
When the windchill is -20 (as in the upper midwest) or the summer ambient is 115 (as in the southwest), getting a head start on climate control or melting an inch of ice off the windshield is a major benefit. Yes, it surpasses the risk, as I've found on several vehicles in our household, with zero failures over ~ a decade. They do time out if no one opens the door and engages the vehicle and activation usually entails a double-press of the fob in a brief moment.
