Personally my mindset aligns with the Germans. At most I put a water bottle in my cupholders. I've never eaten in my cars, ever.

The one time I allowed something other that water in my car I was punished by the Bavarian car gods. Let my daughter have coffee in the back seat for a trip to Disneyland and she left the "Empty" on the seat. We stopped by the car on our way to lunch so I could take my California legal meds. I look in the back seat and what do I see, a brown trail on my Oyster leather.
