One of the reasons that the Luxury cars offer a synthetic leather is for the "sustainable" conscience buyer. It's not a huge deal in the US (yet), but overseas buyers are concerned about that kind of stuff. So some buyers will opt for the Sensatec (or MB-Tex) not b/c it saves you a thousand dollars, but because they have a moral objection to using leather (like buying fur coats, etc...).
