The Q7 has a very well-thought out 35:30:35 second row split, which makes fitting car seats (even large ones) very easy. The 40:20:40 split in the X5 pretty much eliminates the possibility of putting a car seat in the center seat while having one on one of the sides, since the center seat is so small. In my Q7, I'm able to put a full-sized car seat on the right, another one in the middle seat, and still being able to lower the left seat back to allow entry into the third row. That was impossible to do with my x5.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree the ability to fit a car seat on one side and the middle is clutch and allows an adult to still sit in the back without squeezing into the middle between 2 car seats. From a practicality standpoint I don’t see a whole lot of added benefit going from the x3 to the x5 since the back seats offer essentially the same space and features. I think BMW missed the boat with the rear seat of the x5 by not having a sliding bench with 3 Isofix points.
