I like the idea but we need the price of batteries to come down significantly to make it work. This article says the complete battery replacement on a Model 3 was $16k, even if half this amount the idea of upgrading my used car with a new battery for $8k would have me just trading it in for a new car.

Then if batteries cost a lot less you would just get the best one available when you bought the car.
