The video doesn't actually show that the car stopped itself, just that the "system avoided crash". Which might just mean the warning came on, the driver applied the brakes and the car added brake pressure to avoid the collision.
Here is BMW's video on the system, and it doesn't say that the car will apply the brakes, only that it will assist.
This would be disappointing if that is all the system can do. I assumed or was told it was comparable to other systems currently on the market.
