Not every dash layout under every drive mode with every selected right side display shows the current gear. The M dash layouts and Sport displays seem to be reaching infamous status in assuming "performance" driver don't care about the gear. Try other layouts and/or other driving modes, it's the simplest way to learn what does and what doesn't show. Incidentally, the poster above me shows the Alpina dash (coded), which I assert is the best dash for G05 X5 for this and many other reasons.

The answer to the other question/complain is similar. That is ... BMW, "pedantic" common pattern of German UI mentality, general and highly common UX design incompetence ...
