I don't know much about the levels, but I know as you get into juniors (?) and up, it becomes a pretty intense commitment.

I actually own a pair of hockey skates and have taught basic skating and power skills to hockey players. I've been meaning to learn how to play myself. Axels and toe loops won't work in hockey skates - you dont have a toe pick. I taught a minor league player a sit spin and some cool footwork skills though.
Skating took up most of my time growing up, especiallly when you get into the levels with triple jumps. And the competition can be brutal, at least hockey players have the sense to just hit each other.
