Getting back to the original poster's question: it's not imperative that you do the oil change right away, but I'd recommend getting it done in the next 1-2 months. The 12-month oil-change rule is just a general rule of thumb, under the assumption that most of your trips are probably short and/or you don't drive the car much. Oil is inexpensive, so I change my oil every 5K miles on my cars with turbo engines anyway (or annually if I happen to drive one of those cars less than 5K miles).
