This is interesting, normally you would never mix a different front and rear tire and the majority of shops would never recommend it.
I inquired with michelin earlier in the year if they had plans to make sets in 22" X5 sizes, and the person I chatted with online told me the same thing as what your shop offered, and said that it was ok to mix different tires as long as they were all in the pilot sport lineup. Personally I wouldn't do it.
