BMW has utilized OTA updates for a couple years now with major releases coming out in March, July and November on an 'arbitrarily rolling' basis by region (a 3-6 month lag or
longer is common). I'm not familiar with Tesla's rollout of its software updates, but I suspect it's quicker than BMW. remote software upgrades are downloaded to the vehicle in two ways:
1) downloaded directly to the vehicle via its cloud server
2) downloaded to the MyBMW app then to the vehicle
