Not necessarily, upgrades that replaces an existing engine can come with little to no price increase. Take the 2020 7 series for example the 750i get the new V8 while 740i get no engine upgrade. The price increase is $2700 on the 750i while the 740i get a $2800 increase. I.e the 750i with an upgraded engine get pretty much the same price increase from 2019 to 2020 as the 740i which has no engine upgrade.
