The roundabout 5 series comparison is due to that the 5 series already have the model structure with an M performance car as the only 50i model. And for the 5 series there is a much smaller premium to go from a 540i X-drive to the M550i than it is to from an X5 40i to the current X5 50i M-Sport.
Can this be indicative to that we could see this gap between the 40i model to a M sport/performance shrinking with the M50i to a similar gap as for the 5 series? I’m not saying it will but the comparison is intriguing.
