As all running lights, better visibility. Also some rear lights for people that forget their headlights after dusk, but that's a moot point on the X5 due to forced automatic lights mode. |
As far as I know it's not forced unless you set it to automatic mode? I may be wrong though. Is it really forced?
Also why did bmw unnecessarily complete the lighting setup with a huge giant light panel letting you select which lights you want at any one time. And then split the bc stalk with another half button for auto high beams. Sometimes their complexity just doesn't make any sense to me |
On my Canadian build (this may matter), headlights always revert to automatic at every startup. After that, you can turn them off if you're in park (but not in drive, that is forced auto). If that ever became a problem (weekly drive in theatres, new job as a spy, etc), I suspect it can be coded differently.
By the way, it is possible to code menu options that enables/disable front and rear DRLs individually.
