The problem with turning ON cornering light whenever you use turn signal or before you start the turn is that it can cause unnecessary glare to traffic. One typical example is doing left turn in intersections in North America. When you move the car forward, turn on left turn signal, and wait to left turn, your cornering light would shine directly towards left side traffic at the red light. Even though the cornering light is supposed to aim downwards, it can still cause glare especially when the road is wet, and it causes confusion to other drivers.
I have experienced this while waiting at the red light, and I was cursing about that stupid cornering light in that car
The current BMW way would not cause such problem.

Ah this makes sense, thank you. I wish they would enable this for a right turn in the US. The cornering lights have helped me see curbs in the country side when making a right turn on my F10.
