I enjoy the power of my M50i, but I have to say, it's nice sneaking out in the AM in the 45e without waking up all the neighbors on cold start, or sitting in a parking lot in electric mode waiting for my wife.
The 45e is definitely more luxurious, quieter at idle and on highway, smoother ride with air suspension. The M50i is sportier and livelier, they are both fantastic in their own way. I bought my M50i first, so if I had to do it over, I'd seriously consider the 45e myself and put the savings towards a 911 or M4 as a toy. My m50i was $24k more and I'm paying $250-300/mo in gas on top of that, the difference is hard to justify.
