ASS Questions
Hi,
I am asking about auto start stop and not ASS. I must first apologies as this is a old topic but as I just got a used X5MC year 2020 and I am tired of pressing the ASS button everytime I start the car. I did that for my RRS previous everyday but as the button is easier to press. My X5M ASS button take some effort and sometimes 2-3 tries sometimes and I feel I am going to break the button panel sometimes. So I went to do coding today to get the ASS off. Mine software is 10/2023 which just been remote push to my car 2 weeks ago. I also code to adjust the reverse mirror tilt and that works very well for me after the coding. What didnt work is the ASS. When I start the car, I disable ASS and the orange light come on. After I park the car, lock and come back again, the ASS button light is not on but somehow when I next stop at the traffic light, the ASS is still disable and this logo came out on my dash. I didnt notice this when then button is on with orange light. . It only happens when the ASS button has no orange light and the car did not die. However good thing dont last, at the next traffic light, the engine die and I got to press the button again to activate the ASS. Question is why did it work for 1 traffic light and not premanent? Secondly why did that logo come out? Thanks for any advise. Appreciate. Last edited by Terras14; 11-09-2024 at 07:03 AM.. |

The ASS will only activate under the right conditions. I don't know all the conditions, but one of them is engine temp. Most likely your engine wasn't yet warm enough to activate at the first stop light, but it was warm enough by the time you got to the second stop light. I always drive in sport mode in our X7 m60i, so the ASS never activates.

ASS Coding doesn't work on the M cars.
Your best bet is to program your M1 and select ASS to on. It is faster to press M1 on your steering wheel than finding that tiny ASS button on the center console. No punt intended.

I have a 21 and my car remembers the previous setting, ASS always off. Although, maybe two or three times it will activate and I keep telling myself that I probably hit the button by accident, even though I'm 90% sure I didn't. I've only had the car two months.

That quite true thanks. So I set M1 to be the most efficient and comfortable mode to drive daily but will that be the same as the normal driving mode?

I think there is 2 option. One is to memorised last setting which is what I did.
Second is to code it to deafult off. I have not tried the second one which is probbaly the one you did. May I know when your Ass is deactivated ( via coding ), does your ass button lights up permanently? Or it does not light up but the ass is still off? Many thanks. |

M1 all the way. With LCI the start/so is enabled again after using either M mode. The workaround is to set M1 to your preferred normal, M2 is the fun button, and never leave M mode.
So you'll start up, hit M1, and you're off. Want a little bit of fun, M2. When your hooliganism is spent, you tap the M1 to go back to your normal. You'll never leave M, and never have the start/stop stab you in the back. |

You can set it up at all full comfort. It is fine to drive when the engine is cold. Just dont gun in when it is cold. Think about the Hybrid Cars, it will start the engine cold and drives on it. Like my XM when I drive in Hybrid mode or the new upcoming G90 M5.

M1 is going to be your normal mode in this scenario, and not overly aggressive to drive on because you set it up as your normal mode, which isn't going to be overly aggressive. The idea is to leverage the possibilities you have in setup to improve your driving experience. As I described, is one way it can be done. Mine is M1 with everything turned down except for start/stop killed, valves open, and engine in sport plus. This will also increase the shifting aggressiveness, and drives the way I expect an M car to drive, but will not over rev a cold engine unless you purposely ask for it. M2 is fun mode, everything cranked except the suspension, and manual shifting. I only drive the car full fat, or turned down for real world traffic, so I only need two modes. That leaves one free to be setup for a normal mode, and in the way I like it. Everyone has their own groove, that's mine. |
