Factory hitch and bike rack issues with cameras/radar, etc?

Looking for input from those who use the factory hitch and a bike rack (1 up). My bike rack literally lives on the car, as I use it 3-4 times a week. My current vehicle doesn’t have any of the newer electronic warnings, ie lane departure, rear hazard warning, etc.

I got to thinking that if I hang a bike rack on the back, I may have issues with the new G05 in terms of false warnings, impaired back camera vision, radar issues, etc. What do you think?

Any input much appreciated!

I have a Kuat 2.0 (two-up) rack. I don't leave it on all the time. It does impair the view of the backup camera. And sometimes when driving with a bike on the back it will falsely show a side-impact or rear alert. Otherwise, it works fine and doesn't complain.

There is a "trailer mode" that disables a lot of the safety features you could enable when the rack is mounted to avoid false alarms.

Depends on the type of bike rack you are using.
In most cases, it should work fine. If it does start giving you a lot of false warning - you simply switch it to trailer mode manually; that would take care of it.
As for blocking the rear camera view, there's not much you can do about it, apart from taking the bikes off

I really like the overhead view (drone) when parking in tight spots...do you think the rack would somehow affect that feature?

Without trailer mode on, the sensors keep jamming on the brakes. There is a way to disable the braking intervention just once, see pics, or I prefer to just use trailer mode. Your cameras will still work (see pics below with a bike and with the trailer up/stowed) but the braking intervention will not function (but will also not fight you when backing up). The bike rack is a Thule T2 Pro.

I just had a non BMW hitch installed and haven't had a chance to try it out.
Does trailer mode work for non BMW hitches?
Where will I find that option?

If the option is in your Idrive yes it will.

These are the instructions to activate trailer mode, but I'm not sure if it is available without the factory hitch. Let us know
