Yeah I hear it's a good experience. My CA said if I pick up at the dealership I'll have it before Xmas but PCD means mid to late January. Still on the fence about switching to PCD. I may just go check it out another time.

You're in Georgia, go to Spartanburg, you won't regret it. Getting your car a month or so earlier is not enough of a reward to offset the joy you will have, at BMW's cost, with a PCD.

Its the anticipation that kills us, we can't wait, just can't wait even if waiting will give us something of more value. Any number of owners who have done the PCD sing the same positive song and you can only do it once per new car.

Do it, you can thank us all later

Tough choice. I guess it depends on your holiday plans, if you aren't going on any road trips might as well wait...but then again, that's almost a month!

^^^^This right here!!

I was going to write a comment but this post said it for me.

This is a no brainer. You live in Georgia. A one month wait is nothing compared to the lifetime memory of experiencing PCD. Just do it already. Please report back with pictures.

Not a tough choice Having been there before, I look at it differently. Its a must do, especially since BMW pays for it, all you have to do is get there and pay for gas on the way home. Free lodging for two, breakfast, lunch and driving instructor training, familiarization with your car (to a point) and a fun time for two. A great little vacation to boot. The instructors are really good at what they do, have a fun sense of humor and you can learn a lot from them about the capabilities of your X5, I mean you simply won't believe you can push the car that hard and understand why the design can take it. It also helps you feel better about paying $80K for one.

Not to mention that his dealer won't have the chance to screw up his car/paint like has been reported several times here. When someone in your family has a special event, wedding, graduation, decade birthday, etc, we somehow move our schedule around to be able to go. This is a special event.

I totally agree with you. I picked mine up in June, had to fly there and drive home for 1200 miles. Super worth it!!! Took my 18 yo son with me, "best day ever" (and he knows I'll never let him drive my X5 the way he was ripping across the track there).
Tough choice I mean because if i were planning a Xmas time roadtrip and I'd have to cancel it, it would be a different story....I would just have to buy another car to go get there....

Didn't mean to hijack your post Masi0819. Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like I really should do the PCD. Will call my CA on Monday to set it up. Hopefully the wife doesn't think I'm nuts. Lol

Hadn't thought of bringing a driving age son or daughter to the performance center. However, I think that's a great idea and one of the best ways to instill proper driving techniques into a new driver. You know how kids don't want to listen to their parents even when their parents have sound advice but they will listen and take to heart what these performance center instructors tell them and they will get to use that training right there on the spot. Well done homerrr!

My wife and I still use the techniques their instructors taught us and we do feel more confident behind the wheel now. Funny thing about these performance cars, they can become somewhat "ordinary" after awhile but then when you need to push them or depend on defensive/corrective driving techniques in the case of a near accident, you realize why you paid so much for them

My son attended the two day teen school when he was fifteen and had his learners permit. It was worth every penny and he throughly enjoyed attending. *Note if you are a BMW CCA member you are eligible to receive 15% off any Performance Center School.

Is anyone aware of frequent occurrences of 2019 BMW X5s getting stuck at the dealers due to sensor issues and delayed parts-on-order? I'm considering buying a 2019 CPO X5 vehicle that was turned in as a trade assist for this reason. Wondering if this was a frequent occurrences or whether this car is a lemon.

You might want start a new topic to ask for anyone here who has turned their car in on a trade assist and if those who have reply, compare VIN numbers, if you strike a match, you'd surely get the details behind it. I can't think of a positive reason for a trade assist and am a bit surprised the one you are looking at is a known trade assist car.

Additional photos after arriving home. This car is amazing.

The Performance Center is closed for deliveries between 12/19 and 1/6.

Plan your trip accordingly. It’s a great experience

Unless the dealer shocks us with a superb deal on a car this wednesday, we are most likely going to build and schedule a PCD. The dealer says the build slot may be january or even early february, which puts the PCD solidly into heavy winter. How does that affect the experience of going over there? Is the driving instruction stuff year around? Are the factory tours open/closed at certain times of the year?

We did our PCD in February 2019. It was overcast with intermittent rain. we had the best time ever. The rain made the track portion of the PCD even more special. You are given a G05 to drive on the track , slaloms, high speed braking, and off road. The G05 handles way better than I ever thought possible. Even on damp pavement, it when through the paces like a sports sedan. I kept expecting it to spin out and it just kept staying on course. You may never take your personal car to these extremes to find its limits. Track people do. To answer your question, PCD is full on in February. You owe it to yourself to try it if you can. Whatever your dealer wants to deal you for a lot car, work up a build of your own and email it to a dealer with a price you are willing to pay. Match the MSRP discount your dealer is offering and see what happens. You may get a better deal, a custom build, and a PCD experience all at the same time. Go for it! Report back with photos and your story. You won't regret it.
