I picked up my new X5 yesterday. Late at night, while I was playing with the iDrive controller I noticed that the pull down menu (the one that displays the 8 saved memory positions) there was an icon that indicated ASS off. I didn't test it as I was parked in the garage at midnight but I'll test it on the next drive.
Has anyone else noticed this icon and used it? I was wondering if activating this icon puts the car into sports mode or if it can be used in normal mode?

I don’t feel a need to disable ASS, as it’s pretty ok in my opinion. But I’m just curious looking at such passionate discussions on this topic on the forum 😄

So I tested the ASS icon today.
I had the car in Normal mode, hit the Disable ASS icon and the car stayed in Normal mode as displayed in the driver's dash. The engine didn't stop when the vehicle stopped.

For those asking, I have a 2025 X5 40i with iDrive 8.5. It would be the latest software version as I just got the car this week.

I personally don't mind ASS active as it's barely noticeable. It's winter here in Australia and the auto climate control works fine. Summer may be different wrt leaving ASS off to keep the A/C running effectively???

It doesn't take me to a screen. Touching the icon will disable / enable ASS immediately

Next time I'm in the car, I'll try using a voice command to deactivate ASS while in Normal mode to see if that function is recognised and actioned by the iDrive personal assistant.

Hi, does the ASS stay off after you switch off and lock the car or does it re-activate automatically when you restart the car?

Not there on UK cars, would be surprised if was part of an update.

Michael350 , the MyBMW app Check Status -> Software -> Remote Software Upgrade states the specific version number you have running in your vehicle.

Could you please let us know what version is shown in your case? My is 03/2024.42 (built in April), and as far as I know, I do not have that option either.

Not that I am missing ASS, but curious to see what other enhancements there might be once it is generally available.

I have read that Australia has lower emissions standards than EU. I'm not sure how our emissions standards compare to US standards.
