2021 X5, Start-Stop override
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I am reminded to inquire because I got the post-purchase call from BMW USA today, I asked how to bypass it, and she actually told me that you can put it in Sport mode and it turns this off. This is a big help because it's mostly stop and go traffic that makes it a pain in the neck, I can switch to Sport temporarily. |

I have solved the issue for me by programming all “sport individual “ settings to comfort so much essentially I’m driving in comfort mode without the having auto stop/start “feature”
I use this in stop and go traffic but for occasional stops I find the mild hybrid way less annoying than other cars I have driven with auto stop/start Last edited by PeterK1; 11-05-2020 at 04:46 PM.. |

One scenario that we haven't gotten tested yet is to continue doing what was done in the 19s and 20s. Code the vehicle to remember the last state of the ASS system and then put it into Sport to have the system turn off. Hopefully on the next start the ASS will be off.
It was brought up that this will not work due to how the Sport mode overrides the ASS system rather than shutting it off but it may be worth a try. If not, PeterK1's workaround would be the solution. |

That is my understanding also but until someone tries it we won't know for sure.

I was pretty upset at first but now I realize the Auto S/S is much more smooth and almost seamless (so far) that it never bothered me.

You're a bit behind the times. MY2021 X5 40i is a mild hybrid and does NOT have the ASS button, but does have ASS function. So there is no button there to "set it to 'off'". Hence the discussion.

When did they do all this? Do you know if the19s had these improvements? I always found the operation of the ASS on my 19 to be very objectionable and quickly coded the memory function to do away with it.

The AS/S button was removed on the 21’s with the introduction of the mild hybrid.
The start/stop is “milder.” now and less obvious but the only workaround is to drive in Sport mode which disables the AS/S As I said earlier I have programmed the Sport individual mode with all Comfort settings and use this in stop start traffic. In regular driving the AS/S doesn’t bother me at all. |

Has anyone rolled back because the auto start/stop didn't start the car on a hill when you let off the brake?
Coming into my neighborhood, I have a right hand turn where you start to turn, look around the corner and make sure no one is coming down the hill and then you can go. When I wait for someone to finish coming down the hill, the engine will stop, you let off the brake to start to creep forward and the vehicle doesn't restart, you have to hit the gas for it to restart. First time it did it, I rolled back a couple of feet before I figured what was happening, luckily no one was behind me.

As already mentioned...sport mode should cancel the ASS...and you can use either the sport mode switch...or you can push the gear shift lever over into sport mode.
If you don't want to always be in sport mode...and you don't have any coding software or app...when ASS becomes annoying while driving and coming to a stop (like city/urban driving)...you can quickly stop ASS by pushing your gear shift lever over into the S/M gate. Just a suggestion vs selecting the sport mode which requires a bit more concentration to engage vs quickly pushing the gear shift lever over to the left. You can quickly push it back to the right if you prefer COMFORT mode or ECO PRO mode.

I thought I would hate it but honestly I dont even realize it anymore. the 48v helps a lot with that.

I could have sworn with my G01 it would restart when I removed my foot from the brake and I didn't have to hit the accelerator pedal but it seems to work differently with the new 48v then I'm remembering. Thanks for doing some testing!

I turn the autohold function on...when you come to a full stop, it sets the brakes. It only releases them when you press the accelerator pedal...no creeping forward or backwards. On mine, it remembers that setting. On an older BMW, it defaulted to off each time, so I appreciate it on the new model. I think it's available on most if not all BMWs. Try that and see if it helps and let us know.
