Did you put down a refundable or non-refundable deposit for your custom order?

I was told over text that I would need to put down a $2,500 non refundable deposit in New England but the GM said they don’t take deposits.

What was your experience? Thanks in advance

I did not have to put down a deposit at the dealer I worked with, but I did need to get a credit check by BMW to have the car assigned to me. A different dealer I worked with said they needed a $1,000 refundable deposit. Seems like it is up to the dealer as to how to handle.

I get a small deposit to lock the car in and make buyer feel some obligation. But $2,500 non refundable seems a little crazy. MSRP on mine is about $76K

It depends on the dealer and state law. Many required a non-refundable deposit when doing a custom order. Some however will even refund those if it is prior to the vehicle going into production begins. My dealer, like yours, requires a $2,500 non-refundable deposit.

I put down a $1,000 refundable deposit on a custom order 40i xDrive. Wife and I both have excellent credit but plan to pay cash for vehicle. Production date is 5/25.

No deposit as long as you have good credit.

I thought I had to leave a 1k deposit when I first walked in, but the sales asked if I have good credit and I sad yes. They ran my credit and I placed the order, that simple.
