Not an option (so far), at least not for the Austrian/European market
Carbon ceramics are in the opinion of BMW probably not really suited for an SUV and I believe that they are kind of right; carbon ceramics really make sense when you track your car and who really tracks heavy SUVs... with such a weight carbon ceramics would not make it long and a replacement is pretty expensive, maybe that is also a reason cheers |

Who cares about replacement cost if you are ordering a 9k option? I would think the people who check this box will know what they are getting into and if not will be informed. CCB would work very well on an SUV. URUS has them along with Porsche. CCB are Turing moving mass energy into thermal energy and that material does it a lot better then steal.

I asked Bmw M custom.
“Response is we consider this as a detriment to off-road capability” Which they say because the x-5 is supposed to be offroadable and CCBS Are just not practical for that. Then again an x6m is not practical but I tired to custom order them... |

If the X5M has CCBs, they'd probably average 80k miles before replacement. So most initial owners would never replace brakes. The off-road comment does make sense though because CCBs are much less durable and can easily crack from road debris.

They do advertise the X5 with off-road capabilities so maybe for liability reasons? Who knows.

I’m also in the camp that doesn’t understand why they aren’t offered. I have them on my F90, and wouldn’t NOT get them on another BMW. The steel brakes squeal like a pig on the current F85 model X5M, so hopefully they end up adding it as an option!

I have them on my current Cayenne Turbo and had them on my M5. The Porsche CCB are amazing even when wet and cold. The BMW ones were pretty good but could be spooky when wet and cold. I ordered them on my incoming M8.
I would have liked to have had them on my prior X5M - the blue M brakes are noisy, even if they work well. |

it would be nice if they offered them so we wouldnt deal with squeaky brakes like on most M models.. I dont see F95 pad being much more different than F90.. so whoever first gets the F95 can send me their front brakes and i'll walk them to porterfield to make some of their R4-S pads which work great on the F90.
I have a feeling F95 will have some squeaky problem as the F90 |

I would think they would offer them as a special order, like the ind paint colors. If I were buying a X5/6 I would seriously consider them. They are heavy vehicles and fast

Not really fitting in this topic, but does anyone knows the exact dimension of the "normal" brakes of the X5M and X6M (in particular, how big are the front discs)? have not found that anywhere
thanks |

380 mm rear with single floating calibers The only difference between normal brakes and ceramic is the front disc only (400 mm) |

I just locked at M8 which have the same system on X5 M and X6 M Ceramic brakes for M8 400 mm in front I think is not big deal to install ceramic brakes on the X5 M. The only problem is $$$ |

ceramic brakes a waste of money if you watch the M5 vs RS6 vs merc vs Panamera, I believe rs6 and Porsche had ceramics but m5 still stopped shorter. I have no tracking experience so I won't comment on that aspect

You’re looking at a single stop, which of course it doesn’t matter in that instance. If you did 100 stops, then it would. Ceramic brakes have extreme fade resistance. You watching a single stopping event gives absolutely no indication of how effective ceramic brakes are.

CC brakes are optimal for multiple high speed stopping events on a race track.
The “off road” excuse is nonsense. I think it boils down that BMW doesn’t believe the X5M will be tracked. (They would be right) I wouldn’t be surprised if BMW doesn’t offer them later on a special edition like a CS version or track exclusive version of the X5M. Let’s see if the X7M gets them first. |
