2021 & 2022 G05 X5 x40i Are Using Different M Sport Callipers than older models?

Hi, my wife recently got a 2022 G05 X5 x40i, and we are shopping for winter tires + wheels for the winter.

One of the local shops told us 2021 & 2022 G05 X5 are using different M Sport Callipers than older models (2019-2022)?

I was hoping to get the same set of wheels(20inches) that my friend is using on his 2020 model, but the tire shop told us BMW is using a different supplier for the M sport callipers since 2021 models, so the wheels on my friends' 2020 X5 won't fit any more.

Wanna get some help here. Any info is much appreciated.

i'm fairly certain the X7 with Msport brakes are the same as the X5.
there's plenty of clearance for a 20" rim. this is on my 2023 X7 that i was test fitting a rim on. at least a finger of clearance between the spokes and the caliper and at least 1/2" between the caliper and the barrel.

im not sure of the design of the wheel you are looking at, but they could do a test fit of the rim.

ummmm, why bring up the X7? it isn't applicable to the OP's concern

same brake calipers on both. from the etk, the part numbers are the same.

20" wheels should clear both

X7 xDrive40i / MY19-20 xDrive50i with 2NH uses same specs as X5s optioned with 2NH M Sport brakes: Fixed 4 piston front 395x36 + rear 370x24, lightweight ventilated
so whats applicable to one platform in terms of brake clearance is most definitely applicable to the other.

i was giving an example of a current production car that there has been no change that would affect the ability to use a 20" rim.
im also fairly certain that the fixed caliper brakes have been always made by brembo.

the part number from MY2020 has not been superceded, 34106891327, and is still current, which implies there has not been a change.

i still don't understand what cross-platforming X7 brake components has to do with the X5 when the OP's concern is strictly about model year differences within the X5, not model differences between the X5 and X7 (you may want to re-read original post)

Hi all, I have the same question as Jingchen for a different reason actually. I am thinking of moving to conventional tires away from run flats, which means I am in the market for a compact spare. Per Modern Spare, the x5 with the M sport package requires a spacer kit to clear the M Sport brakes. If the new brakes are different, I wonder if the spacer is needed at all.
