My dealer was trying to charge me $299 for some anti-theft that involves something with the doors and windows. I didn't even ask for specifics, I just said no. Anybody familiar or ever heard of this?

Check with your insurance provider. In my cars in the past it was often worthwhile to get something like etching because it would lower the cost of insurance and would pay for itself quite quickly. If the savings and possible theft deterrent are worth the sacrifice in the look of the car (like when you get the etching stuff), then go for it.

Just make sure that if you do it, that you shop around because their price is likely padded with some extra dealer profit. I have always gotten them to charge the same as if I got it done somewhere else. I like how the one offered by my dealer has been on "special" at 100$ more than everywhere else for the past 6 years.

There's this "feature" that car dealerships are selling when you buy a new car which it's from Globali, it's an option that apparently gets an ID number printed in every vital car part in that vehicle with an invinsible ink that can only be seen under an ultra-violet light. Now here's why it's useless.
