Thinking to get x5 e45 with JB4

Hey guys I am new to BMW cars, coming from Audi. I am thinking to order e45 for my wife. We took a quick drive in regular x5 and I really liked the SUV and the size. With all the tax return it is no brainer to just get a plug in.

Couple questions comes to mind.
I current use JB4 in all my cars however they are not plugins and they come from Audi. Dose JB4 compatible with e45 planform?

Dose x5 come with air suspension?

How do you like x5 e45? Is there something you would change about it?

What gas you are putting into your x5?

BTW, it's '45e'

looking at Burger Tuning, they don't list the 45e being compatible with the JB4, but I believe there are a few 45e out there successful with some sort of plug-in tuning module. one guy just fitted an aftermarket downpipe with no tune, and it didn't throw any error codes.

I've enjoyed my 45e since Dec'20. luckily, I've only experienced a few minor bugs. for my use-case, there's nothing I would change, but I would prefer a faster 7.4kW on-board charger than the current 3.7kW one, which would be more practical for road trips once the pandemic ends. Oh, I have the HK sound system, but I probably would've got B&W if it were an option.

the 45e comes standard with 2-axle air suspension and gets priority due to the parts shortages. other (ICE) X5 variants will get priority if optioned with 3rd row seating.

minimum octane is 89. recommended is 91. I put 93 as that's what's available around me. (the cost savings by doing a 50/50 mix of 89 & 93 is nominal given how little fuel I use.) since I drive electric 98% of the time, I also put a fuel stabilizer as the fuel in the tank sits there > 30 days (contains 10% ethanol). not including the fill-ups while breaking in the ICE, I've only filled my tank twice since Dec'20.

In addition to the input already provided by nZtiZia:

1. All 45e's come with air suspension

2. I love mine and I would not change anything - well, perhaps in an ideal world a faster onboard charger and Harman Kardon stereo instead of base hi-fi (due to the temporary supply chain constraints) would both be nice, but not necessary for you to fully enjoy in my view one of the best hybrids in its class.

3. If you search the archives you will find threads about which gas people put in their X5's and you will see that answers are across the spectrum. Personally I put BMW-recommended premium gas (93).

Super happy with my 45e. I went from A6TDI to 530e to X5 45e. The 530e trunk is too small and battery range is too small. 45e fixes both those issues. I got my 45e in March before all the parts shortages and got just what I wanted. Like it a lot.

sorry to hijack the thread, but you're the second person here with experience driving both the 530e and 45e. my wife wants a PHEV next, and with 5-series being her thing the past 10 years, she was kinda bummed the 530e in only 4-cylinders. will she be disappointed or need to curb her driving experience expectations of the '5 series' she knows and loves with the 530e?

Is your wife used to a 528/530 or 535/540/550? Compared to the 530i I think the 530e will be very similar. However, if she is used to a more powerful 5-series, then I think the 530e performance might disappoint if she drives hard. I had a 2018, so there have been some improvements over the years (notably a larger battery). Compared to my A6TDI, I did miss the super torque of the diesel. The X5 45e gives me everything.

both 535/540; she's always driven a V6. i guess the best thing will be to test-drive a 530e if we can, but we still have a couple years. hopefully, the 545e will make it to the US by then? thanks for your input

I was thinking to do the sand with my audi never pulled a trigger on ppf. How much did it cost you to wrap all x5 if not a secret?

Also come from Audi and tested the 530e as well as the x5 45e. Wanted to scale down from SUV, but boot space, battery range and in the end the V6 tipped the scale. Also I find the big lump actually drives quite good - at least compared to the Audi alternative. Get the active rear wheel steering, car feels much more "nimble" if that can be said about a 2.5 ton SUV

I don’t think active rear steering is available on 45e. At least not in the US.

Do you guys think it is worth getting
- Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight
- Anthracite Alcantara Headliner

I also dont really care for an M look package I think. The only thing I liked about it that is matches your rear bumper and front bumper to the color of the car.

What do you fellas think?

In my onion the LaserLights are a must-have option along with the DAP and Parking packages.

Thanks, what is the main difference between regular lights and laser lights? Also what is DAP?

A few would be distance/focus of the laser high beams, linking with GPS, ability to code anti-dazzle, the looks of the DRLs. Another could be that they were rated Good by the IIHS and the standard lists were Poor due to the glare.

As nZtiZia mentioned, I wish this car had a fast onboard charger and the B&W audio. I would say this car would of been perfect without the faster charger if it included all the "missing features" from previous years like soft-close doors.

Since I've spent most of my time in EV mode thus far, I'm at a good point where if I take a road trip without charging, my MPGe would still drop down to a respectable level.

upwards of $7k. my detailer has wrapped plenty of X5s but mine was his first stealth wrap. he had to customize most of the templates because they were made for gloss ppf on glass paint. if he installed them on my car as is, all the edges would show gloss, so he 'extended' almost all of the templates so he had enough film to wrap and tuck around the edges so no gloss showed. some parts were unavoidable, but he covered 99% of it
