Speed Limit Assist-Avoid SET
On my new 2025 BMW x5 x40i with ADAS Plus on Operating System 8.5, automatic Speed Limit Assistant functions only on New Mexico interstates. Once off the interstate, I have to press SET each time a new speed limit is detected.
For example, on the interstate the x5 slows down/speeds up automatically when it sees a new speed limit sign. Exit the interstate, the automatic Speed Limit Assist disconnects with no warning yet still shows the checked automatic option in Driver Settings. So off the interstate, on streets and country roads, I must press SET manually each time the x5 sees a new speed limit sign. On my round-trip commute, I have to manually press SET 22 times to adopt off-interstate speed limit changes. This distracts me from safe driving. How do I program my BMW to automatically adjust speeds when it sees speed limit changes on non-interstate highways and streets without having to continuously press SET? |

I second this question. I watched the BMW vido explaining the feature and was quite curious too, but I’ve not figured out how to get it to ‘auto adjust’ the speed based on changing speed limits without doing it manually.

According to several BMW technicians, this "automatic speed assist" only works on divided highways with traffic moving in opposite directions. Before I bought my BMW, I asked BMWgenius.com if the feature could be applied in all situations including regular highways and streets. "Darcy" said yes, obviously not true. It's not acceptable for me to press SET 22 times in my roundtrip commute. Very disappointed in BMW.

Yes it only seems to work on the interstate would be much more useful on regular roads, the interstate hardly changes. It also just randomly changes sometimes when i have used it, once it read the minimum speed of 45 when i was doing 75 as I had it set to 10 over in a 65 and just in the middle of the highway hit the brakes and tried to slow from 75 to 55, super safe. Another time it seemed to read somethign on the back of a truck and try to slow way down for no known reason - half baked tech at best.
