Very annoying because much people use the rear fog lights just with bad weather and not only with fog. Very distracting.

But our cars don't have those fugly yellow reflectors on the side like the US cars
When I was stationed in Germany I remember picking up my full size van in Bremerhaven and being told I had 30 days to have a rear fog light installed on the left rear bumper. The AAFES gas station had a wall full of fog lights and was doing a bang up business of installing them on service members cars. I guess this is still the case for those service members who ship a car like I did since I am not aware of any US cars that have rear fog lights.

It's interesting that some Audis and Benzs sold in the US do have rear fog lights that are activated. It's my understanding that there is an issue in terms of US DOT standards for rear fog lights but I don't know the specifics.

Anyone know if the rear fog bulbs are installed in the X cars made in SC for sale in the US? I kinda doubt they have them but am interested to know.

my Audi SQ5 had rear fog lights (2018 MY)

I may just bite the bullet and bye esysx so I don't have to wait, originally tried to get my esys launcher updated but token master wouldn't respond for 3 months of trying so then tried bimmercode which makes life easier. Esysx and I could code it 10 minutes from now, so may just suck it up and pay for it.
where do you buy it from?

I totally disagree.
It can make a huge difference in fog and very heavy rain.

Almost all other European made cars have rear fog in Canada - like Audi, Mercedes, Range Rover, Jaguar....
BMW is the only one who would inexplicably remove/disable it in Canada when all the hardware (apart from the switch) is already there.

My guess is you're one of the drivers who used to dazzle everyone else by using it. Probably when it wasn't even required. :

You don't even need rear lights by law in Canada (worryingly) - I'd be campaigning for that before I worried about having something as bright as the sun shining back at oncoming traffic.

I’ve been behind pick up trucks where they had bright lights on where the third brake light should be and IMO it’s too distracting. I however think when it’s foggy out that the rear fog light may be of use however putting on rear fog lights for no reason maybe a distraction.

Etiquette in europe is to use them only when needed. If you are behind a car with them in heavy traffic, put your full beams on to 'remind' them to turn them off.

Rule is, if you can't see at 50m or so on the motorway, for spray or fog, turn them on, but make sure to turn them off as soon as you see a car behind you.

Has there ever been an answer to this thread? I take delivery of my US spec 2020 X5 M50i in January 2020.... in Belgium.

Technically, I am legally required to have them. I've asked my dealer multiple times via email, and he consistently ignores me, most likely, because like most dealers, he knows very little about the actual car.

My F30 (2016 340i) had them installed from the factory, and a simple modification to the US-spec switch, along with a simple coding procedure, had them operating perfectly. No new "parts" were required. It was always "there"... just deactivated for the US market.

Is this the same for the G05??

Fresh update to BimmerCode as of this afternoon. Haven't yet peeked to see what, if anything, was added for the G05.

Looks like many of the coding functions are back for those with the July update. I needed to change the volume display setting to ON and was able to do that with this release. I am using the Veepeak adapter.

I see very few options now. I'm on .53 and using a Veepeak adapter and an Android phone. I hope I don't need a new adapter.

I think the bimmercode update has only been released for some locations. I am in Australia and our last update for Android was mid October. If it has not been updated in your region, that may explain why only a few options are available. I am sure it wil roll out worldwide in coming days.

I saw the updated App today. Coded everything we once had before the software update with the exception of the tailgate button which is the one I was using on a regular basis.

I talked to the dev a while back on this, something about the size for that module over bluetooth was the issue so he removed from the app. It works with a physical cable and an iphone and a version he provided me.

Also oddly, my upgrade to 7.55 from 11.49 or something like that did not wipe out my coding on the tailgate.

Something I discovered through a forum Buddy today is if you pull up and hold the button the tailgate will close. The X5 received two major BMW software updates. I assume that this was a feature that BMW recently added.

Assuming you are talking about the button on door, that is a standard feature that has always been there. That said, there was a bug in a version of iDrive, perhaps .35, where it didn't work.

Yes, the button on the door. I could never close it in my original software version. I only came across the functionality of closing it through the Bimmercode App. Since getting the latest update and buddy telling me it now works by pulling up and holding to close. I'm really happy about that.

Now we just need the developer to be able to set the drive mode to Adaptive.

Get that coding setup going — setting power-up driving mode to Adaptive or whatever is the most basic 2min coding job ever :-).

If Bimmercode would just add support for the BDC_BODY3 ECU, it would be even simpler 1min job in Expert Mode.
