Ordered 10/21, in production 10/28. Arrived at dealer 11/16 — and only then did they tell me anything about the deletion. I am so bummed. I am taking delivery tomorrow, and when I called, the dealer said they were told all BMWs out of SC for this model year will not have touchscreens. Seems like that is not the case…..

Panicked and started getting prices on XC90s (which were laughable), but really, really hoping they do something to make this right if it truly was a blip. Just so, so frustrating. I checked MyGarage literally three times daily — and all they had to do was put a little line of text on the screen to note the deletion. Decoding VINs to check for deletion on a $70k purchase is absolute nonsense.

FWIW, genius line last night said the deletion is still very much in place on all models except the Alpinas.

This is not the case. Ask another dealer in your area.

The dealers dropped the ball. They were instructed by BMWNA to contact clients who were awaiting delivery and let them know that the touchscreen would not be available. Hopefully everyone who is contacting BMWNA concerning this situation lets them know that the dealer did not give them the information, if that was the case.

I believe Genius is correct and nothing long term should be based on the current availibitily of the touchscreen.

Exactly - this is on BMWNA; sure the dealers could help, but first & foremost we ALL contact BMWNA daily via mygarage, the 1-844 number, and/or BMWNA's other properties & services. Further, the dealers are BMWNA's contracted staff, so ultimately the buck stops with BMWNA, not the dealers.

With that said, this is a rough situation for all and, while BMWNA could certainly be handling this more customer friendly, we still do get the information here which isn't ideal but is available.

If BMW touch screens are indeed still constrained then my "guess" is...

1. BMW ordered screens w/o touch to keep production moving until supplies stabilize.
2. A portion of screens w/o touch arrived and were built into vehicle before they should have, hence the software update and stop sale. Those vehicles started arriving ~ 1 week ago.
3. Vehicles in 150 that had touch screens allocated were pushed out to when BMW thought they would arrive. Those vehicles are arriving now. We are also seeing some of the X5 w/touch arriving w/tow packages that are still not available for a X5 order.
4. Vehicles will start being being built w/screens w/o touch and w/touch based on how BMW decided to allocate screens, e.g. Alpina B7, M, etc.

So either all vehicles will start arriving with touch or they won't. I'm betting on the latter. Either way we may need to wait a week or two to see which is right.

Which ever strategy BMW is taking or will take, they need to communicate with dealers and cusomers in advance.

Now, it's a mess for everyone.

- 3 Series
- 4 Series Coupe and Convertible
- 4 Series Gran Coupe, not i4
- Z4
- All versions of X5, X6 and X7

I understand that. Folks on this forum seem to think the deletes were for only 1-2 weeks and that they are now permanantly back based on current deliveries.

I don't think that's true and was asking if anyone has looked for similar threads on the other models to see how those vehicles were being build w/touch or not and if it followed the same pattern.

Not with the inventory of 3s, 4s, X5/6/7s I'm reviewed coming in. It's not short temporary (1-2 weeks) supply issue.

There's tens thousands of vehicles affected on a monthly basis and unfortunate that individuals can't see beyond their situation - it's not ideal for either company or future owners.

Eg, BMW is not going to retrofit all the thousands of new 4 Series GC that were delivered with manual front seats.

This is not true for Xs.

Every single one I can find (produced after 11-16) has a touchscreen.

Auricom , please provide datapoint - vin of an X which is produced after 11-16 that has the touchscreen deletion.

Yeah I just sent him a note. He gave me the PN this morning and it was showing up correctly for about an hour and now it's a completely different car.
