Here is how the new comfort access works:

Quote:
The Comfort Access system has also been enhanced vs the outgoing generation. When equipped, the vehicle is able to sense the key from a few feet away, and can automatically unlock and lock without having to touch the door handle. Upon approach, once the car recognizes the key, the ambient lighting and light carpet will come on, welcoming and guiding the driver to the door. This is activatable in the iDrive menu.

Another great feature of Comfort Access is known as Smart Access. A spare keycard can be added to a vehicle when its equipped with Comfort Access, which will enable the driver not to carry the keyfob at all. Once paired, the keycard can be held up to NFC reader on the driver's door handle to unlock the car, and placed in the center console to start the engine.
Spare keycard contact point with door handle and placement in center console:

A little confused about the bottom set of diagrams. Isn't that how the old CA worked? That you had to touch the handle to unlock? And what does that arrow pointing to a hole in the console represent? Where to put your fob? If so, why take it out of your pocket?

The botton diagram shows the new key card and where it needs to make contact on the door handle.

Gotcha. I was more intrigued by the FOB proximity lock/unlock diagram. Will be nice to not have to touch the handle to unlock then open the door especially if I have to access the rear seat first. Can't do that now in my M3 as CA is only on the front two doors....so back and forth I go....

The all-new BMW X5 can now be specified with remote engine start, ex-factory trailer hitch, and heated and cooled cup holders in the center console. Remote engine start can be operated through the Keyfob via a triple click on the lock button from the appropriate distance or via the BMW Connected App. When equipped with the ex-factory trailer hitch, the towing capacity is increased from 6,600 lbs to 7,200 lbs.
With remote engine start activation via the BMW Connected App will we be able to control climate settings? seat heating/cooling? steering wheel heating?

NH_F36 thank you for all the great info. I know you have another Thread to ask CA questions, but this info seems to be from a recent training CAs experienced, so my question below may have been discussed as part of the training (?)

Any reason given (or chance of it being added as an MY19 option) why the Dynamic Handling Package was excluded from the 40i?

I asked and I was told it was because of the low percentage of take rate on the 35i model.

Execuhitch would be the better option when they come out with it.

I could understand that, but when it's offered on the 50i, how difficult is it to add on the factory floor?!?

I guess this forces me to wait for the M50i next year...life is so unfair!

You are saying the V8 sells more? All I see are xdrive35 on the streets.

I think he means the low take rate of that option (DHP) on the XDrive35 models.

The percentage of people that ordered it on the 35i was very small.

Part of the reason the rate is so small is that it was a Priority 1 option which meant there were never any on the lot to test drive.

I have owned 3 with it and while it was a costly 4k option, it is a night and day difference. If people had the option to test drive one with and without, I have no doubt that it would have sold more.

I had to test drive a 50i to experience DHP, but once I did there was no doubt that is was worth the $4500 price.

Yes, it should have the same feature as the G30 and G01.
They call it Lane Keeping Assistance (as different from the standard Lane Departure Warning).

However, unless it is a huge improvement over G30 and G01 version, don't get too excited over it, as it is downright dangerous to use.

It does follow the lanes marking or the car in front, though you may look like a noob or drunk driver bouncing slowly between the lane markings. But the worst part of the system is that it would suddenly give up driving (when it fails to detect the lane markings) very easily and without much warning! You only get a large yellow steering wheel warning on dash or HUD, but without any audio alert. The car would stop steering say if you are in curve, and the car would just drift to the next lane at the same time as you see the warning icon.

They say the system is to allow more relaxed driving.
I believe the opposite is true, you have to pay so much attention to the system you cannot trust and watch out when it would stop working that it is more tiring for me.

This is a pity as the traffic jam assist works so well in comparison.

And bmw did a dreadful job of explaining what it was. Why would any regular punter pay an extra $4K for something they physically can’t see.

Hi,

I see there is an extra feature with the Driving Assistance Professional Package vs the Driving Assistance Plus Package, but what does that feature in practicability do? And why can we get Active Cruise Control with the Plus Package?

Thank you
