Come on guys, let’s figure this out! Does anyone have any relationships with techs or tune shops? I’ve asked my local dealer techs and they didn’t even know this was possible with the older generations....

If anyone is curious, I was able to get my dealer to use their software to open the flap, and unplug the servo wires. Flap is now always open. Looks much better having exhaust exiting both pipes. From a sound perspective, it does sound a bit throatier, especially on start up. A bit of a drone on the highway though. Could be my imagination, but I feel I lost a bit of low-end torque.

Ferrari has the same concept except they have two down pipes rather than the flap. Generally the impact is slower spooling on the turbo which should impact your times and low rpm performance. It'd be interesting to see some dragy comparisons. |

I have been driving my car with the flap open for the last 9 months in my 4.0. my observations
- It does increase the sound, specially when accelerating - Fumes come out of both exhausts :-) - i don't hear any drone , maybe i got used to it. but took my family of 6 for a 1500 mile trip and we were all good. Now, what i have been noticing (for a while)is the low end torque is affected. It feels it needs to spool more to get up and go but once is moving it is fine. I even installed the racechip and it moves, but again from mid to high end (it flies). I got a g05 loaner recently and felt very quick and quiet So i'm trying to decided and find time to put the horse shoe clamp back on and try. i guess sacrifice noise for off the line quickness?

I got the RS (+50hp) and feel the extra power. When accelerating It feels like the car keeps going and going instead of loosing steam. ( hope that makes sense) . I picked up my car recently from service and really felt it heavier and a bit under power. As soon as i got home put it back and much much better.

Nope not warranty safe, you just may or may not be lessening your chances of an issue, here's why:
The risk you're taking with a chip is not necessarily the service appointment - your dealer may not even note the chip even if it's installed, though they may, so you're always better off removing it. The risk is if something big goes wrong with the engine for whatever reason - at that point the dealer will let BMWNA know it's going to be a big job that'll cost them a lot and BMWNA will probably start asking questions, they may even send out an engineer or two. If BMWNA discovers or even suspects you've modded, they'll likely deny the warranty work then and there (there'll be no proof or any other such luxuries, just warranty work denial). People might tell you "but but they have to prove it! Moss-Mag act!!", well those people didn't read the fine print - I can only speak from BMWNA experience, but here's the thing: they can deny you warranty coverage any time for any reason, they don't need to prove anything to do that, and your only remedy would be to sue them. (legally this is how contracts work) The way that'll go is your car becomes evidence so has to sit idle while they delay court dates for 2 years hoping you drop the case; and if you don't then they come to court with all the data, engineers, and attorneys they need to win. So overall it's a risk/reward equation: • If you chip you get the nice reward of 50hp or whatever • However, on the low probability something big goes wrong, you'll probably be paying for a new engine and labor to install it A friend with a new 330i and Dinan chip fell into that last category, and many others have fallen into variations of that. It's not common, but it's a risk.
