I picked up my X5 (Xmas present for my wife) yesterday. I was offered a factory 7yr 75k or 100k mi. I was strongly considering until one of my buddys that knows about this stuff talked me out of it. Just curious what you guys were quoted for this. I was quoted $4500 or $5500 depending on mileage.

My apologies in advance if this has been covered.

FWIW I paid for the extended warranty up to 75k miles as well as the associated maintenance up to 75k miles. I think I paid a little over $5k for both (apparently the dealer gave them to me for cost). I figure for a new, $80k+ vehicle I intend to drive for 6+ years, it’s worth it.

Thanks, seems like a good deal. How many years with the 75k? 7?

My dealer wanted about $3k for extended maintenance to 4 years! Only 1 extra year

There is no sense to buy extended warranty now. Buy just before the factory warranty expires. You can total the car, it can be lemon, etc. - if so, then you loose money.

Anyone have any experience good or bad with GEICO's mechanical breakdown insurance? $250 deductible and kicks in after the BMW warranty is up. Coverage is for 7 years or 100,000 miles. You have to add it when the car is less than 15 months old and less than 15,000 miles so you start paying while the car is still under BMW warranty. Premiums are cheap though. $25 for 6 months. Not sure if or how much they jump up when the car goes out of warranty.

I've have this on my G05 and my M2. I've yet to use it because they are both new, however seems like a really good deal.

Just to make it clear, because they often get intertwined on these threads... extended maintenance and extended warranty are two seperate things.

Exactly, extended maintenance isn’t much more than an oil and filter change... definitely not worth what they charge. Go VIOC (Valvoline), great oil and BMW filter for less than a hundred bucks...

Here is an existing thread about extending the maintenance warranty as opposed to the warranty covered in this particular thread:

So what is the total payment for this 7 yr 100K miles extended warranty with $250 deductible ? is it $25 x 12 months x 7 years = $300 /yr x 7 = $2,100?

My dealer offer me 7 yr or 100K miles extended warranty w/ $200 deductible for $3,000. So you get an additional 3 years or 50K miles after the factory warranty expired. Have to decide by tomorrow before they finalize the paper work ?

Just realized it is $25 for 6 months, so $50/yr x 7 yr = $350 total ! Wow !
Will get his instead if Geico offer the same warranty insurance in California !

Yeah, I signed up for the Geico (I think it's called mechanical breakdown insurance). It's ridiculously cheap - $9/mo so, $117 a year, and $819 for 7 years $100k mi. My dealer quoted me $5,500 for the same warranty from them.
What we don't know is if Geico would increase the price if you used it, or if the price would go up yearly.

Never mind, you cannot buy Geico MBI as a stand alone policy.

According to Geico sales Rep, you have to switch your current auto insurance policy over to Geico then add the MBI.

No Thanks, I am happy with my current insurance company

I assume you have Geico Auto insurance on your vehicles ?

Now I start to see Geico business model on this. Start at $9 / month in year 1, it may goes up to say $50/month in year 5 after the factory warranty has expired ?

My Dealer's $3,000 quote seems acceptable ( especially when compared to the $5,500).
Will have to decide tomorrow.

I'm using GEICO too, so what's the best one to go with?

Thanks

Looks like you have to renew this MBI along with your regular auto insurance with Geico yearly
So, you have to ask yourself if Geico will still be your auto insurance carrier 5, 6 or 7 years from now ? Otherwise all the MBI premium you paid in the first 4 year

The problem with Geico's MBI is, you need to keep your Geico insurance for the entirety of the duration. If you switch, your MBI payment goes down the drain. I keep switching my Auto insurance every year because my premium goes up during renewal for no apparent reason. I get great rates if I switch and then it goes up during renewal. Geico's MBI is a no go. They will recoup their cheap MBI price in auto insurance rates. Its a ploy.
