Latest on my order from my CA "There is an issue coding an NFC card to this VIN. AG is working on resolving it... estimate is for the end of next week"
Interesting. Not concerned. No rush - need by summer! |

Got mine (ordered from a dealer that did not sell me the car), it arrived in an envelope with my VIN printed on it. Took less than 30 seconds to program it myself and it worked great. From in my wallet it opened the door. Put my wallet on the phone charing pad, started the car, put the wallet back in my pocket and drove off. When I got where I was going, parked, turned off ignition, put wallet against door and it locked and I walked away.

This is what I am doing until they get the Samsung programming issue worked out. FYI, Remeber that the key card has to be in the phone tray anyway for it to activate start-up so this workaround makes perfect sense in function and form.
Question Jay,...Do you see any conflicts with carrying both key fob and key card left in my phone case? In other words, two keys in the X5 at the same time but different forms. Both are recognized under just my profile. Last edited by MystroX5; 01-12-2019 at 09:33 AM.. |

Picked up the key card today. It came in an envelope from BMW with my VIN on it (and a warning about perchlorate being a carcinogen with a website to read about it, so that was interesting).
I followed the pairing process in the manual and it only took a couple seconds. I haven't been able to pair it to my driver profile. Will try again later. |

Any NJ dealer can do this for me ? My dealer seems to be clueless and have no idea how to order it. Please help.

I don’t get how this is so much better than having comfort access. I just walk up to the car and it unlocks. I don’t need to move the key from my pocket to start the car. This seems like more work.

The key card is thin, tough and can get wet unlike the fob.

So I went into the parts department at my local dealership to ask about the keycard.
They said, for early production models that didn’t get one, the part should be ordered in conjunction with the service department, so they can create an “RO” to bill the cost of the card to the warranty. Service was unaware of the procedure but after talking to the parts department it was ordered. |

I took delivery of my 2019 X5 with comfort access on Dec 10 and did not receive the key card. Went to the Cherry Hill NJ dealer yesterday to take my 2016 X5 in for service, while there, I placed an order for the key card at the parts counter.. they had never heard of such a thing and I explained what it does/what it’s for. They said there was also a coding fee of $15. I got a call this morning that they have it ready for me, but that there is no vin number written on the envelope (I asked because I was curious). The activation instructions aren’t very clear in any of the videos I’ve seen, because the camera always points away from the display, so if mine works I will try to make a clearer video and also try to read the contents of the NFC key, does it gather any info about the car? What exactly is it transmitting? Can it be read by an arduino with an NFC reader and be used as a key for your home as well? Is it using NFC type 1,2,3,4 or 5?
