Rattle from rear, source found!!!
Although the X5 is sheer driving pleasure, The trunk of X5 is filled with cheap plastic I feel. There has been a rattle from the rear of my car at speeds above 60 on rough aggregated roads. I took to dealership, they kept for a day and couldn't even test drive it. So brought it back. Browsed forum. Seems like some people have been having this issue. Some have suggested applying black scotch tape over rear seat latch. Before doing that, I gently tapped everything in the trunk and found the push button to release and lock the cargo cover is creating that rattle or that plastic grill next to it (see photo). Any suggestions what can I do about it? I would hate to take it to dealer and waste 2-3 days for them to figure out. Thanks

see if you can remove it and then use some felt tape to prevent rattling. I have rolls of it in both 2in and 1in varieties

I was just thinking yesterday how nice the cargo area is on the G05. Now that I read your post I'll have to go take another look. I'll have to find my cheap plastic meter.
Seriously, I'm glad you found the source of your rattle in the back. |

How frustrating! Toward the end of my 6 hour road trip yesterday while driving on a rough chipseal road, I turned off the music and heard many quiet (not obnoxious) rattles/buzzes. One consistently comes from the back right... maybe what you found is the source of that one!

While it was in the shop for that and they bricked it with a software update, I was given an X2, then X3, then G05 X5 loaner. All three had rattles, so I just now assume it's par for the course in a BMW. My old Audi had zero, even after six years and with rough low profile tires |

That's crazy. I was just telling my mother my car is making a rear creaking sound from that back and I have to locate it before it drives me crazy. Then 5 minutes later I see this thread. Hopefully it's just something in the rear like my ice scraper. My last car drove me crazy. I thought it was my license plate frame. It ended up being the roof panel.

All cars will develop creaks or rattles eventually depending on road conditions and other factors. The key here is they're able to get fixed

I get that, hopefully, you can fix it easily, I'll try to check mine and see where it's stemming from on there exactly.

On my 2200 mile road trip, I would turn the music off while my wife drove just to listen for any noises. I can’t even tolerate my luggage rattling. The only noise I found was when my kids put their USB C adapter in the rear armrest and it rattled around against the plastic lining. I had them put it in one of the rubber lined pockets under the rear climate controls. I am going to put down a black felt lining inside the rear armrest when it warms up. Trunk privacy shades always make noise and have to be removed ASAP at the time of deliverer. I won’t even stow the privacy shade in the vehicle under the rear floor just in-case it rattles.
