Yes - I meant to respond to you on this. I went through the opening steps ope opening an account but stopped when I thought they may do a credit pull. A couple of days later I got an email asking if I’d like to continue or if they could answer any questions so I asked them about this and they said yes, that a hard credit check is required to open an account.

I called them and thawed it so they could finish the process. I don't mind the hard pull as it will have little effect on the score although the wife will like it as it will keep me from catching up. We like to see who is higher each month and she has been an 850 so probably won't be equaling her for awhile. At least I will continue her winning streak.

Another quick update for the OP. Penfed requires a 30 day membership (not 60 as I was originally told). My X5 is on order, so if I delay pickup (by a few days, most likely) I should be able to apply the discount. Thanks again!

I edited my first post to indicate 30 days. Thanks

Hope they renew the $500 offer for deliveries after Jan 2 as I just got my production number for an estimated mid-Jan production date

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the penfed discount and USAA discount are not stackable as they both just provide the BMW domestic military discount.

Also - somehow the sales rep at the dealer I’ve been dealing with thinks the discount is only $250 rather than $500, and showed me a document that says so pretty clearly. So, I don’t know what the discount really is.

I mentioned that they probably couldn't be stacked since it seemed like they were the same program, thanks for the confirmation on that.

He is correct, at least for the USAA, the rebate is $250 when financing/leasing through BMW. I would assume PenFed's program is the same.

Edit: I just did a new offer sheet from USAA and the amount now shows as $500 rather than the $250 it did when I got mine. It could be the amount went up and he is using an old resource.

I will be able to confirm on Tues when I finally sign the paperwork. $500 is clearly noted on the screenshot I referenced :

Ok, it will be interesting to see what you actually get. The PDF I have from USAA clearly says $500 ("$500 Incentive for Lease and Retail Loan financed through BMW Financial Services. Exception: BMW FS Lease not available for i3.") whereas the screen shot the CA from BMW sent me clearly says $250. Also he said these offers end at the end of the month so if they don't renew it will be too late for a new build car that takes beyond that time frame to arrive..

Not to confuse the focus of this Thread being $500 from Penfed, but I know others using USAA have effortlessly received $500, not $250. But we shall see.

It depends on when they did it. Perhaps the $500 started with the 2020MY because prior to that it was $250.

Keep in mind, many dealers initially think this Penfed incentive is a fleet discount, and not a domestic military discount (assuming it is a military discount lol), since historically BMW has only been associated with USAA as the domestic military discount. If coded as a fleet discount, you will not be able to stack with loyalty.

I can confirm the USAA incentive is $500. My dealer added it to the $1250 Loyalty & $3000 BMW FS incentive when I provided him with the USAA certificate generated on their website.

Okay, so the $500 Penfed monies worked (when coded as military), but my SM was having a hard time combining the Penfed with my OL code for some reason, despite BMW's stackable matrix showing they could be combined. In the end however, he managed for me to get both monies

Yes, anyone can join Penfed. I don't have any affiliation with the military either. That's what makes this a no brainer

When you go to join it asks some questions to determine eligibility and it appears that you can join even if you aren’t affiliated with the DoD but maybe there are different membership tiers like USAA.

my dealer is predicting early Feb for our completion date, how long did the PenFed process take you to get an account started? $500 rebate is treated just like the $1250 rebate is on leasehackr? I put it in the taxed incentives column right?

Assuming Penfed's program continues into the new year (not sure why it wouldn't), you have to wait 30 days from when you join to receive the incentive (as per folks who recently joined and posted to this thread). I've been a member for years. Not familiar with leasehackr's calculator, but the $500 would come off from your negotiated price.
