The B58 platform is the tits, I don't necessarily disagree with the "m340" moniker.
It's like an M3 lite, definitely not the same, just toned down a couple notches in every regard. Still a fantastic car though, despite its poor body styling lol

As explained many times and by others as well, the margin between your F30 PPK is far greater to the M340i, than the slim margin between M340i and the F80 M3. |

Well to be fair, the S55 in the M2C and F80/F82 competition package burble in stock form, too.

Yes, absolutely. Which is a testament to M340i hitting the nail on the head getting it marginally close or even to those two.

I'm sorry, you lost me a bit with that last sentence.. are you saying that one of the reasons M340i is close to/even with M2C and F80/82 is due to BMW programming burbles in each of their DME files?

Yeah Audi really started it, especially since S-Line included no additional engine performance and in many cases no suspension upgrades, it was all asthetics.
2 years ago I knew the extra ///M badging would come to the US when I was in Scotland, almost every BMW had M badges all over it straight from the dealer, in the kidneys, on the side, and the rear. The dilution of the badge started in Europe a long time ago.

Hitting us with the knowledge!! Here are Some other ones people might not know
Hyundai has started using "N" for their performance models which stands for "Race" (in Korean, the word for "Race" starts with the letter "N") Honda's venerated "Type R" references the "R's" in the word "Performance" The "F" in Lexus' performance line stands for "Excitement" since "F" and "E" are right next to each other in the alphabet. Audi's "S" and "RS" aren't actually referencing words, but rather corner shapes, the "S" is obviously a gentle sweeper, while the "R" makes reference to the 'joker' lap that must be taken in rallycross races, further evoking audi's rallying history. Lastly, i'd like to point out that the my M car does too smell better than more plebeian BMWs. That's why our brochures come with a scratch-m-sniff. |

Should we just call it a day, those arguing for 'real M' have lost the argument. B58 in the modern M performance cars have shifted the game for the M performance cars.
Enjoy the shit sounding double exhaust, gothic mirrors, m buttons and carbon roof and expensive suspensions that would be upgraded anyway. Oh and merino leather. Just joking 🙃

Nothing wrong with the BMW AG Series cars either BTW; for their respective segments and class, they're usually pretty good cars.

These cars are a generation apart, makes no sense to compare those two considering they were not even on sale at the same time. Besides, there is suppose to be progress when a new generation comes out. The real test will be M340i to G80 M3. Unlikely that the margin will be "slim", but we'll see soon enough.

Honestly, reading your posts, you come out as the biggest "fanboi" here. I am not sure what you have at stake, but you sure are intense about the topic.
