Radar detector hard wire.

Just picked up my M50i on Wed. She is gorgeous.
Will post more pics this weekend.

Question: wish to run a hardwire for my Max360c detector. It will be mounted to dash with sticky cup - does anybody know where the easiest location is to tap power for a power cord behind the dash?
I know there is a 12v socket in front console, but don't know if that would be best source - or closest fuse block.

Thanks

I used Blendmount for under mirror mount and mirror tap. Had a prof install in Delray Beach. easy fast and looks great. I would not use sticky cup for sheer look of it.

Agreed Mirror Tap is a solid solution

Or if on dashboard just use a fuse tap in the footwell fuse box. There are switched and constant supply fuses in there. If you search for dash cam installation threads there are photos and fuse numbers. Just can't remember fuse numbers of the top of my head.

Easy to run cable behind trim by door rubber and along back of dash

Appreciate the info. I did check with my installer ( which I have used previously did great job) advising had issues with mirror taps throwing codes, will do it but no warranty the job. Other downside of the blendmount is your in for a new one whenever you change detectors I believe.

I have the Max 360 as well...it's big I def prefer it under the mirror...I toyed with idea of Uniden R7. Blendmount has an adapter so no need to replace the whole blendmount. but in reality, now that I've used the blendmount across 3 BMW's and 2 Vettes I can never go back...it's the price to play. if I need to replace or change out. minimal cost in comparison to return, imo. have used mirror tap over 10x and never had codes thrown. Back to the Uni R7, my Max 360 was going off so often that I was intrigued with the perf of the R7...however and really researching correct settinings for the Max, it works great now. very silent and very few false alarms.

Picked up power from front fuse box F27 constant and F72 switched. Both were unused in mine. F72 is one of several for usb power, I don't have the travel and comfort pack so guess that might be why it is unused.

Congrats on new ride! Please see the below link. I just used mirrorTap for my escort 360c in my M50i.
It was a very simple process, literally taking about 25 minutes.

Thanks my installer did the hard wire along with a front window tint & PPF. I did go with the dash mount as I'm used to it there. My Max 360c is working fine there. Installer told me there were no instant off fuse slots, detector powers down after 5 mins along with gearshift LED.

Only PIA with a detector in either spot is it must come down to put sunshade up, but with magnetic mount not too big a deal

You know, probably would not have to remove the detector with the blendmount when placing the sunshade. Here's mine now with the blendmount.

sorry to detour the thread - I ordered the same interior choice for leather as you did (Ivory/Navy Blue). In the config it shows an Ivory dash with both full and extended option. Yours is black which surprised me!

Was that a custom choice you made?

It looks like they made a change (at least on the build) to the lower dash for the extended Ivory/Blue. It used to be black Sensatec but now it looks like it is ivory Sensatec. The full Ivory/Blue looks like it is using the Ivory leather has it had been.

One other difference is the lower part of the console appears to be ivory in the current extended where it was black before as it is in all of the other extended options.

I did my build back towards the first week of March - If I'm reading your explanation correctly, it sounds like it might be a config change for the extended leather option rather than full? These photos made me pause to wonder what to expect - I picked this color combo in part because of the Ivory lower dash but sounds like its only the extended option that might be going through an update...whew!

I've had BMW do these quirky unannounced 'tweaks' with a couple of my past builds; especially when they are getting closer to an MY change over.

That is correct as far as I can tell, the Full seems to be the same as it was in the beginning of the model year with the stitched Ivory lower dash and the blue upper dash and door tops.

In looking at it, I think you would still have to remove the detector with the blendmount. The sunshade fits pretty tightly against the rear mirror- and the entire windshield actually.

Nope- photos in configurer showed black lower dash with the Ivory/Blue extended Merino option.
Looking now they changed it to Ivory lower. I actually prefer the black.

What brand/model do most people use?

Ivory Blue seats

Placing my order today with the dealer. Have it built out with same ivory and blue seats. Do you like, love, or hate them? Scared the white will show everything. Dealer told me about some $700 sealer they use on the seats and exterior, if it gets permanent scuff they replace the seat for you I guess? Thx for any insight.

You sure you want our opinions? I would not go with any light color, I keep my cars too long for light colors to continue looking good and I'm not a believer in buying dealer sold protection of any kind. Way too much markup in most cases, if I want some sort of protection, I'll source it aftermarket. However, if you like what they are offering and you have it in writing that they will replace your seats if this or if that happens, I hope you are a lawyer and read between the lines of their protection guarantee so you don't end up with a battle on your hands when you go to use it
