440i review by Car Throttle
For your Saturday morning viewing pleasure
I love these guys, more than straight pipes. They go over the new m440i and the new grille design. Takeaways: 1) Heavier 2) More insulated 3) Fast 4) Grilles and Design were meh. 5) Electric starter motor |

So basically it’s ugly, dull, and has lost the BMW soul.

Throttle house have been my go to for a long time now, they're great and not trying to sugarcoat everything.
Pretty much, "it misses the mark at something that can be labeled the ultimate driving machine". "A C43 is more riotous, a Gulia is more nimble and a V8 mustang has more soul." Also it's "equipped with a face only a mother could love". |

I just want to see the sales numbers in the first year. I also want to see how much they start dishing out in incentives.

This, the StraightPipes can be very annoying, especially Yuri. They go off on way too many useless and irrelevant tangents, and don't talk enough about handling, too much tech. TH is much, much better. The drive is the first and foremost focus of all their reviews, Thomas is a track fanatic so his knowledge (especially that of BMW's) is very credible, and the reviews are entertaining to watch above all else, and the two of them are great together.

ThrottleHouse is fine, not nearly as annoying as StraightPipes. They (meaning StraightPipes) went on an "endless" tirade on the long gearing for the 718 Spyder. People called them out on it and they did some stupid ass segment about them loving the car in another video because they thought it be funny. I just found it even more annoying.
Savagegeese has been the only one I am subbed to currently. I pay little attention to other reviewers. That said. Not... really surprised about it. We all know the route BMW is heading to. In a few years, we are gonna have a car that is 4100 lbs standard and about the size of a F10 5er for everyone because why the hell not at this point.

I see you edited your post, but not sure why you say "not nearly as annoying" though, implying that they still are annoying

I took a few things away from this TH review.
"Misses the mark for the ultimate driving machine". Of course it does. "SOFT". They mention that a few times. The mighty have fallen |

I thought they were very "nice" in this review. So sad, but like everyone mentioned I think we all saw this coming from a mile away with the trend BMW has been on. I think G8x has a strong likelihood to follow the same pattern.

First Car & Driver and now these guys. The M340 has generally been well received by the press (not glaring, but decent reviews), I'm surprised the coupe version is getting shat on. On a side note, this 440 looks like trash in that tumbnail.
The M340 is a little boring to me just twiddling around town, but when you start pushing it at the limits its pretty good.

Most of us agree with this sentiment, but the question is why is BMW going this way? Is it simply dollars and cents to try and appeal to the most amount of people possible? Or something else?

On a more serious note, what happens now? The grills and the car itself hasn’t gotten much praise and seems like the whole new line of BMW products is universally disliked. What would a company like BMW do to salvage their rep or are we all being that OBTUSE to not see what’s really good? I’m sure the mere exposure effect would apply here in due time, but come on. I just don’t see the vision.
