I am questioning this testing process, for example our dealer confirmed that our car will be shipped to Ireland from the UK by the 18th today, and tests will be done by this date, so I checked the recall site and as expected today it changed to “No recall” for our car. I guess all updates to systems are done in batches, and from your comments, same is applied for certificates and all. Doesn’t look like a robust execution, mind you expected when you see the way they handled the mess form day one.

The great thing about this car it that it is actually 2 cars in 1. Electric mode is extremely relaxing, and then you put in Sport mode and the beast awakens. Jekyll and Hyde in a car, great fun! |

Some comfort before going to bed and plugging in: Just go out on a ride in Sport Mode, activate "save battery" mode and set it to 100%. Drive until the battery is fully charged (may take up to 1 hour). The loading through ICE takes place at around 18-20 Kw. It is a heavy load for the batteries. If still prone to short-circuit, it will most probably happen. If not, you can have a calm sleep.

In a process that has taken months... all cars seem to be magically through the process right exactly before year end! You think someone is chasing year end figures? In summary; Basically they kept my car for 3 months on a car park, then charged it 4 times and now everything is ok! My feeling says it was all a big fuss over nothing. Has anyone heard of a car failing the test? |

Of course there is some concern, but do you honestly think that anyone would give back cars and wait for someone to die in a fire? Probably more than half of the cars are charged in underground garages, imagine the consequences...

I believe the problem has been vastly over exaggerated and I do find it strange that we all have been waiting for months upon months with zero communication and then suddenly all cars are cleared just before the end of the year. In saying that I prefer they over exaggerate on something as serious as this. I absolutely don’t want anything to do with a car that can potentially go on fire! |

In Belgium so the interview is in Dutch/Flemish, but this gives a nice view of a new testing facility here in Brussels: https://www.bruzz.be/videoreeks/vrij...s-heizelpaleis

When you think about it, even at the 16A maximum, with that many vehicles, that's a LOT of power being consumed! It took awhile for that to be setup. Between the power company, permits, and contractors, that all takes time.

This will be the case from the new year, so far my dealer information is being spot on, they told me that all Irish bound cars currently in UK got the priority for testing to get them out before end of year due to Brexit, and I was told the 18th was the target date, on the 18th the recall code disappeared, and now our car showing as clear. When I complained to BMW back in November about the lack of information, they told me it was down to BMW UK to update them.
I guess deliveries going forward will be quicker with one less stop! Last edited by martin mustang; 12-22-2020 at 04:41 AM.. |
