Merry Christmas: Mission Performance brings G05 X5 45E Hybrid Range-Extender
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Being an established company in performance tuning of all late model BMWs, we had to go back to the drawing board with the hybrid power train and make your requests come true. Being known not only for astonishing performance gains, but also extreme durability/reliability and working hand in hand with Toyota NA on the supra tuning release in 2019, we had to make sure that the product we built not only delivers on the miles extension part, but is also safe and reliable for our customers. As soon as our company test vehicle was delivered, we went to work hoping to bring this solution to the market by the end of the year. Code disassembly, modification and thousands of test miles resulted in a perfect solution for all of our customers. With our solution, customers can flash their vehicles with new firmware that has been tested to 70 miles on a full charge! Of course remember that your actual mileage will vary dramatically by your driving style and consumption loads, but expect up to 25kwh usable capacity. Further, we have done modifications to improve electric motor efficiency, resulting in lower wh/mile usage! With our test vehicle covering the same daily 55mile commute for the last 2 months, we have never had to use ICE and have been seeing an average of 380wh/miles consumption, resulting in a range north of 60 miles! Link to the official product: https://missiontuning.com/hybrid-mod...-extender.html Merry Christmas! |

Well I'm certainly following this thread. Question - when you state you've made modifications to improve efficiency, is the car slower in all electric mode than it currently is? That is probably the only major way IMO to increase the efficiency (by reducing the acceleration)? And to verify - its easy to flash the car back to stock and then take to the dealer, correct? What about OTA updates? is there a backup feature at that point as well (prior to the OTA update) or am i not understanding the process?
This is great news for those of us in the US - just want some info/first hand feedback before I take the leap! Aceman |

What if the car logs the battery charge status and reports it back to BMW? (I wouldn't be surprised if it did this, even my old F11 records the battery charge levels and they can check those at the dealer.) Then BMW can see that you have been using the full battery capacity and in case of any battery problems, make you pay for the service..

So when you have an issue with your PHEV and you bring it in, the engineers will probably request the tech to pull the log and they will see that the battery pack was outputting more than it should. I don't think the extra 10-20 miles you get are worth the warranty issues you might have. |

this is SUPER interesting but this will most likely not going mainstream before the warranty expire on these vehicles. it's good news that the code was already hacked but I don't see how someone would want to take a chance voiding their warranty.
In other word, you need to DEMONSTRATE how we can go under the radar if we apply this mod to our cars

wow thats pretty interesting. I would just worry about warranty issues. Nonetheless nice find OP, that range is more then enough for a large portion of the buyers of the 45e.

BMW says the X5 45e can travel for between 67 - 87 km (41.6 - 54 miles) on one charge, according to the newer WLTP test cycle.
https://insideevs.com/reviews/452279...d-test-review/ So not sure where 30 miles range is coming from? All these software mods to yield range have got to kill the acceleration of the car. BMW already has an eco mode, so I am guessing this effectively puts the car in eco (or super eco) mode |

I don't know much but I remember reading this on the e-tron. My guess is its the same magic.
"The automaker added 18 miles of range, for a total of 222 miles (and 218 miles for the Sportback model) by allocating more of the battery pack for daily use." Basically, Audi removed some of the safe zone as the batteries don't (may ruin them) like being dropped to 0. |

Most 2020-vintage lithium batteries (in North America) are optimized for long cycle life by discharging down to 20% of nameplate capacity, at which point a "Fully Discharged" message is sent by the BMS. If someone re-programs the BMS to harvest all or some of the bottom 20% capacity, that will materially reduce the number of cycles a battery can charge-discharge. Knowing that OEM's have made no maintenance provision to swap out lithium modules at the end of useful life (sorry, just scrap the EV/PHEV after 8 years), folks may want to treat their battery life carefully. Getting more range from a battery module is definitely possible but there are definite trade-offs. Also note that OEM CFO's have made no provision for replacing "worn out" battery packs under warranty, so expect them to fight tooth and nail to prevent owners from ever cashing in on their battery warranties except under super-lemon circumstances.

From bmwusa.com: With 30 miles of all-electric range – the longest available on any BMW plug-in hybrid vehicle – you’ll have all you need for shorter trips and commutes. This range is based on 2020 estimates by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Actual range will vary depending on driving style, traffic conditions, and outside temperatures |
