lost

My X5 45E was cleared end of last week, but they don't manage to track the car, so they don't know where it is. Somewhere on a transport, but at my dealer they don't know when it is going to arrive at the dealership. I really don't know how they manage to fuck it up every time, but they do it. The dealer received a very angry e-mail of me this afternoon.

That's nice. It is somewhere between Brussels and somewhere in Flanders. How do they lose a truck with 8 cars on it.

Mine was on the docks in Zeebrugge for 3 weeks. I can understand that handeling hundreds of cars is difficult and difficult to please everyone.

The X5's HV batteries are essentially in three parts with a total of 12 modules; one down lower each side of the driveshaft, and one higher up towards the back across behind them, all held together with some brackets. The one in the back is why the floor is higher in the X5 45e and you can't get the third row seats. FWIW, they had to redesign the fuel tank, and made it out of SS rather than (I think) plastic like on the other models.

Garage List
SS likely cuz it's pressurized to preserve fuel state versus running a mandatory fuel use program like other brands 👍🏼

Which dealership did you get yours done? Mine is still stuck at the dealer, they hit a snag last week in trying to get additional programming done. Maybe they can call your center to compare notes.

Thanks for that. I will let them know. BMW has offered to trade assist me out of it, only problem is there are no 45es out there short of a 2 to 3 month wait. Alternatively go with the 40i.... all crap choices.

Mine went into the dealer for testing Dec 30th... given it had already short circuited, I wasn't super surprised to hear that it has the 'issue'. 11 days later and not fixed... have been bashing about in a 750 which has been fun but I thought I'd be picking it up repaired... alas no eta on parts...

When I complained to BMW back in November about the lack of information, they told me it was down to BMW UK to update them.
I guess deliveries going forward will be quicker with one less stop!

Have you picked up your car yet Martin?

Well, I called the 'hotline' number to ask what was going on last week and they said, "good news, you can book your car in to get the recall completed, we're ready to go".
So, I did that, and left it at New Century BMW in Alhambra, CA and after 3 days the SA advised me that they don't even have the TOOLS to perform the recall, let alone the parts that are affected and it could take another month....
I called the number that we were sent initially (back in October) to say, "hey, why don't you find me a dealership in SoCal that has the right tools to fix the car? Why is this MY problem? YOU do the leg work and get me back in the car that I paid a lot of money for to work in the manner it is supposed to."
I'm in a loaner X5 at the moment and really disappointed that I can't use my car. I loved it for the 6 weeks I had it working as intended and want it back! Why is BMW not doing all it can to make longtime customers a priority?
So very disappointed.....

FWIW, to remove the battery pack requires a special bracket and lift to hold it all in alignment while lowering it from the vehicle. The pack is really in three sections that need to remain aligned so it can be bolted in place without damaging the cabling between the modules. With out that, there's a big risk of damage from what I have read. It's too heavy and awkward to try to do it otherwise, but with the tool, it seems to be easy. Once removed, the actual maintenance or replacement of a module is fairly simple.

I'm waiting for the dealer to get the battery conditioner back from the manufacturer. Without it they cannot reprogram the new cells. My car has been in the bay taken apart since Christmas

Mine just came back to the dealer (in Switzerland) after being tested on a test site for 1.5 weeks, with all recall notifications removed. Promising, but the dealer is yet to communicate if all is OK. 4 months after receiving the car in Aug and driving / charging it for 6 weeks.

How did you know your car had short circuited?

I took delivery of my car a week ago - 18 Nov 2020 build - and it keeps setting the charger unit (both Wallbox and 3 pin unit) into red / error - will hopefully get it into dealership tomorrow.

BMW is doing a trade assist/collateral exchange. They have agreed to take the vehicle back. My replacement vehicle is enroute from another dealer. I am glad to be putting this behind me after 3 months dealing with it.

How did you instigate this? Did you have to push hard for this? I feel a real lack of focus on BMW's part to getting this resolved....
