100% its an X5. Either M50i or M50d. Only way to get those wheels from factory. Center console also from X5.

as a parent that has the car seat in the rear passenger seat, this is so damn scary to look at.

Sure, BMW makes safe cars but in this scenario, it's mostly pure luck.

I like the debate on what vehicle it is. Next thing you know someone's going to try and figure out if it's a Yeti or a Hydroflask in his cupholder.

Insane that he came out unscathed. Amazing it held up enough for him. Very thankful.

Looking at this wreck, survival is certainly also due to the overtime duty of the personal guardian angel. The structure of the car is totally devastated. Being crushed like this requires an awfull lot of good luck besides a rigid car of course.

You are thinking about US cars. European cars have way more option choices than we do.

I do think its an X5 though.

Wow, that is nuts. Glad the driver was able to come out with only minor injuries. Also very happy to hear that the child seat was unoccupied at the time and no kids were hurt.

I was looking at that as well. It looks like it could have been survivable in the child seat, but no way of really knowing.

Now that i've looked into it, i'm not sure anymore what the hell is this car.

What mathers is the driver is safe. Cheers.
It's pretty clear it's an X5.

It's exactly for this kind of situation that I don't believe in autonomous cars... the autonomous car will be able to stop in front of a stopped vehicle but unable to predict that the truck in the back will jam it, while a real driver will change lanes, even at the risk of taking a ditch or side accident to avoid getting run over like a common mosquito! Maybe in this situation the driver already shifted to the left to avoid a deadly crash

I disagree. An autonomous vehicle has the ability to monitor traffic all around it and calculate many exit strategies ahead of time. There is also a chance that an autonomous vehicle could have positioned itself in a safer circumstance from the onset. No one will know in this instance, but the tech can monitor more variables than a human. That's not to say that an experienced defensive driver couldn't make an equally good decision. But it would be more of an educated guess than a calculated maneuver.

Naaa they are only doing that type of analysis on the yeti and hydroflask forums.

No matter what brand of the car, good thing that no one got a serious injury. Especially no child in that child seat!

Itīs an X7 guys On the last photo you can see the rear seat, which is adjustable - on the bottom part you can see adjustment controls and on the upper part of the backrest you can see the button fot tilting the seat forwards when someone wants to acces third row.

Now if this is what happened to giant X7, imagine what would have been left of a 3 series..

Anyway - glad that everyone is okay. The driver was very lucky indeed.

The X5 can be had with a third row as well, at least in some markets.

The second photo pretty clearly shows an X5 taillight.
