you should swing by a shop and see if it was installed correctly since its not a 100% direct fit, you might have a small leak. I had mine installed at bmw and they did a fantastic job as well as ordering additional gaskets, bolts to make it all work.

Hey guys,
I just bought a x5 m50i in Australia and was really hoping if you could help me choose which route to take with the exhaust. I don't want any drone and want to be able to maintain the ability to 'quieten' down the sound. Would a resonator delete with an x-pipe or h-pipe be the way to go? Does anyone know where the OPF is on these cars? Might be worth doing an OPF delete to see if it increases more sound? |

I am about to embark on this with an exhaust group in Melbourne next week, a simple resonator delete with a straight pipe, it's being done monday. I'll let you know my thoughts. |

Please do! I was speaking to a person from a reputed exhaust shop in Sydney and he mentioned that a resonator delete will only yield about 3-8% in terms of volume and won't make the car 'louder' like I want it but might introduce drone.
He recommended I keep the factory valves and he'll set up a unique quad muffler design that allows for a 20-30% noise reduction when the valves are closed and will be equivalent to a muffler delete when open. He quoted roughly $1-1.2k (AUD) for that job |

I'm sure the X5MC exhaust note is more aggressive out of the box than the M50 but I didn't find this to make that much of a difference. your miles may vary. I may consider coupling with a secondary CAT delete or a new muffler (when available Dinan/Remus). I think with the N63/S63 engines, you really need downpipes to get the proper sound. otherwise these motors are fairly quiet in there operation. |

Resonator delete is enough, if your in Sydney, i highly recommend Lamros Kouriefs from HiTech Mufflers in Sydney. The resonator delete makes a huge difference. |

Did they drop the whole exhaust down to weld the top portion so there won't be any leaks

Do the Australian delivered M50i's have OPF or not? I know the M2c deliveries followed US spec and didn't have them, not sure about the X5s?

On a side note, I had a Catback system installed on my X5 with a H pipe. I have 2 mufflers (1 into 2) on each side and kept the factory valves. I'm currently experiencing horrible drone between 1100-1600 rpm with even partial throttle applications. Also, I personally feel like the valves aren't doing much at all - I can't feel any airflow changes between sport and comfort by putting my hand next to the tail pipe. Does anyone know what might help reduce that drone down? It's difficult to drive the car now Also - the exhaust isn't that loud even with the new system if anyone was interested. My X3 M40i (2019) had a louder cold start. |

Well.. the H pipes have been proven to be pretty quite in terms of volume according to Ninefourteener. I think what you should have gone for is the x pipe set up with the exhaust valve permanently open.
