Adding "Lane Keep" Steering Assist!
Does anyone know if the "Lane Keep Steering Assist" feature can be added,...say, to a used vehicle? I would think that it could be done since all of the Hardware is already onboard all G05s.
Thoughts?

You should wait until someone who is more knowledgable chimes in, but this has been asked a few times, and in general, the hardware is dependent on what package was ordered from the factory, so it's not a simple software upgrade.

Yessir, I figured I was late to the game on this question. The reason I asked is because I'm interested in getting a G05,...and many I'm finding ,...with desired options don't have the "Self-Driving" Lane Keep. I'm sure a new Module is required,...as well as some Coding. That is, if it's possible. Ty

What I believe you are looking for is Assisted Driving (sometimes referred to as Cruise with Steering and Lane Control, Steering and Traffic Jam Assistant or simply as Cruise Mode 2) and Assisted Driving Plus (Extended Traffic Jam Assistant) which is total hands free in certain circumstances. These features are part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package. All that said, anything is possible to add but it would likely be cost prohibitive. The hardware definitely is not there for all G05s. In addition to the camera, you will likely need sensors, radar and a new steering wheel. My advice would be to make sure the vehicle you buy has the option and not even think about adding it.

Yes! That's what I mean! [QUOTE=All that said, anything is possible to add but it would likely be cost prohibitive. The hardware definitely is not there for all G05s. At least I now know what items to check for when I'm doing a Vin check. SA 5AU - Active Driving Assistant Professional (This is the case when the cruise button "has simulated hands around a steering wheel") One would assume if SA 5AU is included, then SA 5DF and 5AS are as well a must! SA 5DF - Active Cruise Control w/Stop /n Go (My '18 50i has this,...and I believe most G05s has this) SA 5AS - Active Driving Assistant (Standard),...as in, in all G05s Thank you vm

Is it possible to retrofit just Lane Centering Assist using simple Bimmercode change in KAFAS expert mode? I don't know why Lane Keep Assist and Lane Centering Assist require different KAFAS and sensors to function. One bounces the car from either one of the lane markings, the other reads both lane markings and keeps the car centered. The software can't be that different because hands free steering is not involved. I've heard low speed Adaptive Cruise Control and Highway Traffic Jam Assist can be done with OpenPilot and Panda which is open source. The problem is BMW uses Flexray to control signals with the car and OpenPilot does not support Flexray yet |

Bimmercode can change the activation speed of lane keep assist. Isn't that accessing KAFAS? |

Based on the following image, Active Driving Assistant SA 5AS and Active Cruise Control w/ Stop and Go SA 5DF use the same 1 camera KAFAS system except SA 5DF requires the FRS. Or are these different 1 camera KAFAS system? |

I think maybe you are misunderstanding the packages. While those tow use the same camera they have nothing to the with the Cruise with Steering and Lane Control. That is part of DAP and requires the upper KAFAS camera.

TurtleBoy I was told by my Genius that 5DF and 5AS both require the base KAFAS with one stereo camera, and 5AU is the one that requires the upper KAFAS with three cameras. I'm not asking about the Cruise with Steering option included in DAP.

That is what is tripping you up. You are asking about Cruise with Steering, that is what keeps the vehicle centered.

There's Active Lane Keeping in DAP that requires Adaptive Cruise w/ Stop and Go to be enabled, which is the hands off option to steer in center of lane with the lights on the steering wheel and the camera that monitors you. This works in conjunction with Traffic Jam Assist.
What I'm asking about is the simpler Lane Centering that does not require A to be enabled. At least in HKG models, you can activate LCA without activating ACC w/ SG https://www.reddit.com/r/SelfDriving...daikiagenesis/. I thought this simpler Lane Centering that works without ACC is standard across the industry. |
