My car doesn't prompt me to install new software.
On my phone, the app shows software update is uploaded and I should follow the instructions on the vehicle. But nothing shows on my car? How should I proceed?

Unfortunately that is pretty normal. The process doesn't work for many vehicles. In a few instances it is due to a low battery but not sure we have seen that on the 45e. If your current version is older than 07/2021.00 then your dealer can update it for free under SIB 09 03 21. If it is newer then BMW no longer considers it a problem and it will not be updated under warranty.

I have the same message on my app but the Software update actually was successful and the iDrive is running 11/2022.60 which the app shows as being available for installation. While I love the car, the people in charge of the App and how the software is updated need to get the ish together and figure out what they are doing wrong. I tried to clear the message by deleting the app, didn't work, deleting and adding the car, didn't work, rebooting iDrive, didn't work, doing the hokey pokey, also didn't work.

It appears to be glitchy. Both the app and my X5 recognize that an update is available...it's downloaded to my phone, the phone says it's connected, but it doesn't seem to want to upload it to the vehicle. IF that ever happened like it has in the past, getting the vehicle to install hasn't been a problem. I have an appointment to have it looked at if it doesn't decide to work in the meantime.
There are multiple parts to this issue: - the server must alert the vehicle that an update is available - the app must recognize the fact that an update is available - the app must download the update - the (app?) must trigger the vehicle to pull in the update - the vehicle must meet certain prerequisite requirements before it will start to update (this includes being stopped, in park, off, parking brake set, level, battery(s) with sufficient charge, and not on a slope, i.e., level) I'm stuck where it won't upload to the vehicle. It's worked previously a couple of times as it should. The app says to connect to the vehicle, but the status screen shows everything is connected. |

Lol. I got that too a couple weeks ago. If you hit “search for updates” it will show up again and probably just hang on “preparations complete… you’ll be notified when the update can be installed.”

I usually get notified by the vehicle within 2 weeks after new update has been downloaded on my phone. This is what I found.
I only get the notification when the car is parked AFTER finishing several errands, usually done four or more destinations in one hour. I don’t get notification on one way trip, no matter how long the trip will be. I don’t know why, I am still observing possible laws or patterns that I can trigger the software installation.

I'm a year in. I've never gotten a prompt on the car or the app. When I had the car in a few months ago I asked them to update anything that needed it andthey said I was up to date.
The only update that I received (or remember receiving) was to the map, which was apparently accomplished without my involvement |

Note that as things get assembled, and based on the options in any particular vehicle, an update may not be required for all of the fleet. Some updates are more generic, and apply to all vehicles. So, it's possible you might 'skip' an update offering. Plus, nobody outside of BMW really understands exactly how they prioritize or enable vehicles for whatever updates they do offer to some but not others.
