X5 xDrive 40i Launch Control

I have a 2021 x40i,,,,NOT with M Sport package. Does is still have a launch control? I followed a video sequence to set it up for a launch and it let me set it up but I never actually attempted to do a launch because I only have a few hundred mile on it so far. But it seem to let me complete the setup sequence and was ready to press break and push accelerator down.

Not sure what your question is?

Yes X5 40i xLine models have Launch Control and it's not exclusive to only M Sport.

Great this did answer my question, however is am still in break in period. Someone had told me that only M Sport package or actual M Competition had this function.

Nah.

Feel free to Launch to your heart's content once break in period is complete.

it was like that on the F15 series which didn't have paddle shifters if you didn't get the M sport package (the one prior to this one), but not on the g05.

Ja, exactly.

It was due to two types of F15 automatic transmission available - standard w/o paddles (xLine) and 2TB sport w/paddles automatic transmission.

For G05 2TB sport automatic transmission is standard on all models.

I did not know they were completely separate transmissions. I still have the F15 xline, and you can still 'manually shift' with the actual gear lever. I just assumed they put two paddles on the wheel and unlocked launch control for the M sport variant.

Ja, up to 2017 F15 models - 205 Steptronic Automatic Transmission was standard and you can move the gear selector to manual mode.

Here's the 2017 guide

In 2018:
- 2TB replaced 205 for all X5 models excluding 40e

- 2TE Steptronic Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters replaces 205 Steptronic Automatic Transmission on the BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerfomance

Hi everyone,

I have 2020MY X5 G05 xDrive40i and can’t get the launch control function. I was following the instruction as in manual, but still nothing. So some video on you tube , but can’t get the same result.
Do I have to be in a special driving mode, like sport plus or comfort or some other?
Do I have to push accelator pedal completely down (like for the full kick down throttle?) or slowly and gradually accelerate to get the launch control notice?
Could it be that launch control was disabled for this car with newer software updates?

Thank you for any advise

Follow everything in the manual + brake push as hard as you can (not kinda, not sorta, FULL FORCE) + accelerator pedal all the way in past the kick down point. You should see the checkered flag.

Thank you for the advise.

I managed to see a flag today and did few launch starts. I was not hard enough on brakes and throttle before.
Felt smell of burned clutch ))) anyone knows if launch starts really heart the health of the car?

Yes, launching is the most stressful event on all your drivetrain components. It will most definitely hurt the engine, transmission, etc. specially on non-M cars.
