Strange might be market dependent again.
I've ordered with hot and cold cup holders.. Was not standard like with the m50i but was available in the comfort package.. So many people say they are great. So I added after the order. ‘COMFORT’ includes: • Comfort package (7RS), incl: • Seat heating for 2nd row passengers (4HA) • Heated and cooled cup holders in front centre console (44A) • Heat comfort package, front incl. heated armrest in centre console, door trim panel and steering wheel heating (4HB) • Roller sunblind, manually operated for rear side windows (417) • Privacy glass with sun-protection glazing (420) |

Supply versus market volume seems to be why an option is available versus not. Because (I think) the vehicle cost after taxes is often so much more expensive than the 'same' thing bought in the USA, the take rate for various options will be smaller, so more easily accommodated by the available supply. Otherwise, selling it to more people would just make them more money. Disappointing someone by offering it, then being unable to deliver is not good for customer appreciation.
While better, the supply issues are still messy in some cases. |

This works pretty well. You can hide it away when not needed. Quality seems decent. Personally, just using an insulated cup works well. Also, if you do need a fridge you can just put into the BMW cooler bag that is available for $40 or so. It will keep it cool for a few hours. For daily commutes I don’t think I have ever thought about use heat or cold for the cup holder. It’s an overkill IMHO. |

Welcome to the forum. The Heated and Cooled Cupholders are currently not available in the US.

Where they are made has no bearing on what options they have. Standard features and options vary by country.

TB speaks the truth (as always!). It sucks that they can put B&W and heated/cooled cup holders in the same car I ordered, but only if they ship it outside of the US.

It's a supply issue...better to only offer what you can deliver. Different quantities of vehicles sold in other markets would appear to supply the current demand and supplies. We aren't and probably won't be back to 'normal' in supply chain issues for a while yet.

I think they have been absent since 2020 for G05 X5. Like others mentioned, M cars and X7 still have them.
A lot of good stuffs were removed on X5 current generation, things like acoustic glass, soft-close, heat/cool cupholders, which could have made X5 the best luxury vehicle under $85k. I actually don't think they are still in shortage (given in reality only 5% of owners would option those), more likely BMW is doing this on purpose to differentiate X5 40i from more premium cars (X5M or X7). |

From my experience, heated and cooled cup-holders are one of the most unreliable accessories on any BMW, Mercedes, or similar. Don't get me wrong, I really like having this convenience. However, you are lucky to get 2-3 years of use before they fail, even if you are careful and never spill coffee or water in the surrounding area. There is a separate fuse for the accessory but even if it does its job, it's probably too late to save the device from permanent failure. Collateral damage to the electronic circuity below the cup holders makes this even more frustrating. At least BMW has abandoned the old design of dash mounted pop out drink holders which would splash coffee all over the dash and air vents when you inevitably hit a pothole. Thinking back to older vehicles from the 70's era I would challenge you to find a single drink holder anywhere in the passenger compartment.

Honestly it wouldn't cross my mind to have anything in the cupholder that could spill, especially not from something simple like a pothole. Are people honestly riding with open cups in their cupholders?! Because even the McDonalds cups wouldn't spill even on a racetrack if a lid was on. Not sure how this is even a problem to be honest.

Unfortunately yes which is why I still don't have my car even though I ordered on 1st of March.
It might make you feel less jealous if you know the price difference: A fully loaded X5 50e comes to about $128k before taxes in Germany, add at least 20% for swiss prices. The base 50e comes to around $90k in Germany compared to $75k in the US. Although to be fair i haven't checked the difference in extras that are standard but the buying power is higher in the US as well. Also you get autonomous driving in the US which is still not legal in Europe, so no Highway Assist for us. On the other hand the "dazzle free headlights" are legal over here ... |

Options differ based on market regardless where the car is made (almost all G05 are made in SC; minus some Asia).
In US almost all BMW come with sunroof as a non-deletable standard item; for EU in many case it is an upgrade option costing $$$ for entry level BMW. |
