Hello! (New BMW and '24 X5MC Owner.)

Hello everybody!

My wife and I picked up our '24 LCI X5MC just a few short weeks ago and I could not be more excited. Ours is Frozen Grey with the tan interior - perfect for us. This is by a wide margin the most expensive vehicle we've owned--first BMW, first M car, first V8. Truth be told, I worried that the V8 would not be with us much longer and that was part of the motivation. The other being that after a couple of years driving a Model 3 Performance, our expectations for what "performance" means have definitely been reset...

Vehicle has driving pro and exec packages. We got XPEL Stealth film applied across most of the car--seemed worth doing given the massive road chip issues our other cars have had. I'm trying to do what I can to keep it clean. I haven't yet gotten through the break-in service yet due to travel, PPF etc. but hopefully soon.

As a vehicle, I generally love it:

1. Packaging is outstanding - tons of room
2. Performance is simply nuts - driving up and down windy CA mountain roads is a blast
3. I've never experienced a vehicle with so much luxury and performance in equal measures
4. Turning circle is exceptional
5. Heated, ventilated and massage seats (simultaneously) is ridiculous and awesome
6. Ultimately it's a stupid car in the best way: stupid fast, stupid featured, stupid capable. I love it!

Some things I wish for:

1. Steering ratio seems conservative - I would have preferred a higher ratio
2. I hate the piano glass surfaces - fortunately ours are not too bad
3. The UI (iDrive 8) is hands down the least organized, messiest system we've seen. I hope the 8.5 upgrade improves things.

Happy to be here and join this community!

Pic of the car immediately post-wrap:

I have the same color X6M ordered, how do you like ot in person? I only saw it once on an X1 and absolutely loved it!

It looks very bright and silver on photos, but I remember this sinister dark bare metal look...maybe it depends on the weather conditions.

I love the color. It's a medium to dark grey - in bright sunlight, such as the photo I posted, it has the appearance of a lighter silver but night time under yellow lights one sees the "dark, sinister" look.

I was planning on ordering a LCI '24 X5M Comp. until I found out that technically the M cars will get 8.5 but it will a "lite" version. No Quickselect or graphical changes to stock iDrive 8. That is a deal breaker for me. I found iDrive 8 to be a mess coming from iDrive 7...was very excited to see much improvement to 8.5, however those improvement will not carry over to M cars like the 24 X5M. Sad.

I'm not sure that's true. This guy shows the 8.5 version in this X5M and it looks to be a lot different than the 8.

Edit: never mind, get cut to a clip on another car

I watched the video yesterday, it shows the same iDrive 8 version, menu items are on left of home screen and not bottom as in 8.5. Also doesn't display new 8.5 "Quickselect" menu. At the 15 min mark in vid, shows new 8.5 but that's not the X5 M he is reviewing. Looks like a i5 or similar. I wish I was wrong. I want to order 24 X5M Comp.

The was listed on BMW list of iDrive 8.5 upcoming vehicles: >>New BMW M Models will iDrive 8.5 but without the new graphical interface.<< Typo is in original listing.

I watched another on the Quickselect and I don't see the big deal and not having it. Who cares because at the end of the day you won't be playing with the screen very much once you set everything up.

I'm really liking the color myself. How does it drive in comfort? I've heard it's a lot smoother than the pre LCI.

I have idrive 8 and can tell you that it is better than 7 for sure.
A "mess"? I don't think so.

Sadly I have no reference for the previous model year since I have not driven them. In comfort I find the ride fine, but my wife and I tend to prefer more aggressive road feel. In comfort it's in the same ballpark as, say, our Model 3 Performance, which is fine for us. It would not be fine for somebody expecting a smooth and feedback-free quiet ride.

I find it to be a mess... finding steering wheel vibration feedback settings in the interior lighting section was hilarious. I love every other bit of the vehicle, and have zero regrets about the purchase, but will readily admit that this is the most poorly organized, convoluted infotainment system I've ever used.

If prior versions were even worse, then I am fortunate to not have had to experience prior versions of iDrive.

We bought the vehicle "in spite" of the UI, rather than because of it.

Again, no regrets.

I have the X5 with iDrive 7 and it’s very easy because there’s a lot of standardized buttons specially the HVAC and I’m very hesitant to upgrade to a new model year because of the lack of buttons everything integrated to the screen that looks like an afterthought to me it looks horrible. meaning the screens set up on the dash. Not sure I will be buying, a new X5 until the body changes and then I don’t know I drive 8 and 8.5 looks to me. It needs a lot of fine-tuning seems to be a lot of problems running smoothly, especially CarPlay. I have no problems with I drive 7
