X5 50e Car and Driver Test
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...50e-phev-test/
This 50e is AS quick as the previous X5 m50i…..just absurd..and all of this performance can be had under $80k…this 50e can give the m340i a run for its money…and it is quicker than the x3 m40i. |

I'm getting 4.22 and 4.35 0-60 on mine. Deceptive. Plus the midrange acceleration is linear and smooth. The electric motor adds a lot of torque throughout the Powerband.

50e power is fantastic. TBH the electric motor alone has so much torque that I stay in pure EV nearly all the time. |

My default is electric only. I've driven almost 900 miles on my current dino-juice tank, which is still half full. My last fill up was early December, '23. I love the 50e's performance! |

The 50e is certainly quick, electric motors help that a lot and the B58 isn't exactly an anchor either. It's a shame they didn't combine the PHEV and the V8.
The real shame of the 50e is it's not allowed any of the other sporty stuff. You're saddled with air ride. No M adaptive dampers. No 4WS. Can it even get the active roll bars? Once they get the reliability issues sorted outs gonna be pretty close to the sweet spot. I wouldn't be surprised if they add all the sporty suspension options in before the end of the run. All that said, BMW has the best electrification strategy. They're offering the BEV models that people will largely not buy, but they're also offering regular ICE and PHEVs. PHEVs will become the dominant force in the automotive world in the next 5-10 years, as people realize how stupid a full BEV is. BMW is posed to succeed in that regard, assuming they can get their cost cutting under control and deliver value to consumers. |

I’m surprised CD didn’t do their 75 MPH Real world highway driving test for MPG on the 50e. I’m interested to see if they get the same 26-27 MPG I’ve been seeing after the battery is depleted. Believe they have a more scientific method of actually measuring the weight of the fuel used.

The good part is we will never know, or have to hear it, since he has been banned.

That said, I don't disagree about the Electric power being important for a PHEV. I'd argue it doesn't need to be crazy fast, but it needs to get to 80mph, it needs to be able to keep up with traffic, and everything else is sort of moot. While you don't have to drive it all out all the time, I think the 50e is almost too quick for what I'd want for my wife, she doesn't need 0-60 under 4 seconds, she'd be fine with 0-60 in 7 seconds. She would care more about having a convenient wireless.charging pad for the car. Last edited by BlkGS; 01-13-2024 at 12:31 PM.. |

Thanks to whomever made that happen. The guy couldn't handle the idea that anyone would buy a car that wasn't an M60i and identical to his preferred spec, and it dragged the whole forum down.

These things just aren't 'enthusiast' vehicles and I'd actually prefer they not go overboard to try to make them into one.
