As a point of comparison, Velox Wheels (sold by Costco) has a 20" suitable for winter at $290. (Offset is 40, so I don't think it needs spacers.)

Not quite 3x, but close. Though out of state dealers typically don't charge tax and some have free shipping. That might close the difference a bit.

Shop BMW USA has 20" BMW Winter Wheel Set, Style 748M in Black with Pirelli Scorpion Winter R-F for a bit over $4k. Comes with center caps and TPMS. It might still be in stock, so you can get a dealer to order (or assemble) that for you.

If you're a Costco member, you can try you luck at the dealer with the 15% discount on parts through their auto program.

In my shopping for this season, that would be the best deal for winter tires with OEM wheels... assuming you are okay with the Scorpion Winter run flats.
Great suggestions! I did look at the Costco tire center, but did not see any wheels for sale, will check again. Was not aware of the the discount from the Costco Auto program.

Back in 2021 when I was looking for winter tires, I picked up a set of take-0ff OEM wheels for about $1200 shipped to me...now, those were 19", so less expensive than the larger ones, but still, they're out there.

Alaska_X5 How long have you had your Velox wheels? Have you been pretty happy with them?

Since you got the Velox wheels, did you get everything else from Costco and have it installed there? If so, did Costco hassle you over the TPMS? My local Costco seems to think they don't carry the TPMS for the X5...

Very happy with them. I also had two sets on my 2020 Ram that held up great. I bought the TPMS though Costco as well and had them install.

I have a 2022, so just give them a call. They go on sale a few times a year.

I have 20” Michelin X-ICE SUV and just had a major snowstorm in the NE with temps in single digits and teens. Had many different conditions of deep snow and plowed snow that was frozen in a thin layer on the road and in all situations even turning it was surfooted the entire time, in the rare circumstance when I gave it too much gas while turning it quickly found its grip. Would highly recommend these for winter tires.

So, I'm not the only one that had that experience as they would not install with their TPMS.

I went back to check on my tire order and spoke to a different person at the shop. He seems to think it might be possible using some other way but didn't fully explain.

Once I get my wheels I'm going to try again. Hopefully they'll just do it then.

I feel like I should write a letter to "head office" after this. I suspect Costco don't intend to be this way, but it ends up like this... I don't think the "tire center" is a loss leader like the roasted chicken and hot dogs.

America's tire had wheels, but they required spacers to properly fit on the car which I am not a fan of.

Ideally, I want to get BMW wheels, but can't justify the cost (as they seem 3x from other wheels) considering they will be used for a few months a year.

I will look around at other sites to see what is else is available. Any suggestions on brands that are reputable and work?
Wheelership.com set me up with a set of 740M rims for about $1500; BMW TPMS from a parts vendor added about $200, and I already owned Michelin Alpin 5 snowtires from last winter. Dealership charged me to mount and balance and installed TPMS for free.

Did you replace 21 inch rims with the 740M rims? I guess they should fit properly over the M brakes as well.

I did. But I have tow package brakes - bigger than standard, smaller than M sport brakes - not M brakes. Still 740M are standard M -a Kate rims, so they should/they do fit over M brakes…..

Ordered a set up aftermarket TPMS that is compatible with BMW as they didn't want to install the Costco TPMS and Costco refused to install it saying it needed to be purchased at the dealership. Had to debate with the manager to install it.

Anyone that has Velox wheels, did everyone use the bolts that were shipped with the rims or did you guys use the OEM bolts?

Same - MY22 with M package and sport brake….22inch rim.

Dropped to a square 20’’ and Vredestein Wintrac Pro from Tirerack. Always had Blizzaks prior..new brand and tire for me. Love em. Quiet. Great cold/wet/snow. 2nd season on them. Price performer. Give them a look.

Good luck.

If helpful, when I bought my MY21 X5 mSport and it came with the 741M Y-Spoke 21”s staggered I was looking for a winter setup since I had performance summers. I landed on these 20” Niche Gammas with Blizzaks. Love the look on Artic Grey and they ride pretty good but a little noisy at highway speeds. Great in slippery conditions though. Offset is not perfect but I didn’t care. Enough clearance with the sport calipers.

I didn’t want the Costco TPMS either… I ordered the OE ones from RG Sport and installed them myself so I wouldn’t have to argue with them about it.

The person at the tire center counter was pretty casual when I went in for the install. He was perfectly fine with installing them on the new wheels. Didn’t ask anything about them or the TPMS. Didn’t even look at them beforehand. Guess I lucked out.
